Objects you don't see much anymore

My mother used to use one of those. Ours was blue. That pic gave me PTSD because it *seems* like a good idea but it just pulls the hair while the razor scrapes and scrapes until it’s “cut”. Awful invention.

They’ve just gotten better.

And I’d say they are objects seen much more nowadays, and if ever back then. 😉

Model train sets. Sure there are still lots of fanatics out there, but NOTHING like the 70’s and before. Once upon a time they were like upright pianos. One in 5 houses had one. If anything, a staple around Christmas trees. I even remember several bars/restaurants that had them set up high on a shelf going around the whole bar/dining room….through tunnel like cutouts in walls.

I still have my dad’s old Lionel O scale set from the 30’s, and mine and my brothers’ massive Märklin HO scale set purchased over 25 yrs from the 60’s to the 80’s. It’s all been neatly packed in boxes since the late 80’s. Still have all the buildings, houses, trees, cars, people etc to basically build a small town and probably upwards of 100 yards of track.

I can’t think of a single kid today that messes w/ trains, save for maybe Neil Young’s kids. (iirc, Neil once bought Lionel to save the brand)

One of my girlfriend’s dad in the ‘80s had the entire garage converted to a massive train installation.

I’ve still got my big Lionel set that goes around the tree but we haven’t set it up since we got the cat.

My older brother had a Lionel O scale but when he put it up he didn't like me to mess with it. Then later I got an HO set and started having fun with it. He got kind of involved with it and it was fun and then we moved to Thousand Oaks, CA and got horses and such things went by the wayside. I also had the Aurora model cars and tracks, they were really small. Not like regular slot cars, which my brother built.

Let alone not heavily armed!
In Britain, they are still rarely armed, other than an extendable baton, taser and PAVA spray. Firearms are only issued to officers who have had additional training (around 4% of officers) and only routinely carried in certain locations. Police forces that are routinely armed, are the Ministry of Defence Police, Civil Nuclear Constabulary and in Northern Ireland.

^ which was then replaced by this short lived but unforgettable gadget….(vacuum cleaner not included. 🤣)

Flowbees are still sold, but they're stupidly expensive, so I improvised my own:

Yes, I have actually been using this for years. What hair I have left on top is wispy and the clipper won't pick it up by itself, but the vacuum lifts it up to cut. Works great.

Just be careful when you trim your ear hairs, or you might suck out your brain.
