Question!

How many DV-72's were made and did all have the HG (High Gloss) designation like mine?
Neither of my '94 DV-72s include "HG" (for "High Gloss") on their labels. But my '95 DV-73 does... (all have "NT" for "Natural top"). Maybe it's a '93 thing?

Hey Jim... Because of the uncertainty in the number of DV-72s made in '93 (with the LK numbers), I usually just say "about 250" when asked how many were made.

IIRC, the seller of the pair OF DV-72s wasn't a member here... the buyer was. I believe it was LTGer awagner that bought them: a turquoise and a malachite (MK)...
The reason I assumed it was a member here selling is that in the ad it was stated that one of them (DV72s) had been repaired by Tom Jacobs, and I knew folks here were pretty high on Mr. Jacobs. Just a false assumption.

Couldn't believe my eyes when I walked into Gryphon and found this incredible one-owner DV-72NT HG on the consignment wall! One strum and I knew it was coming home with me. No cracks, no issues... perfectly kept guitar by the original owner.

I took this pic just before leaving it with Gryphon to put in new SS frets and a K&K pup.

I thought there were 200 of all DV7x combined. Did I make that up?

I'm not sure how high the "AD" serials go, but I seem to remember 197 for some reason. Add to that the "LK" matrix that goes to at least 43 (@Aristera's guitar), and that makes at least 240. Thread is here.

I dont't think Hans has ever chimed on this, although Ralf might correct me on that.

The published SN lists for the 1994 DV-72s with the AD prefixes go to 197... this number includes those with turquoise, malachite, or pink coral inlay. The highest AD SN I have seen is GADs 72MK, which is a few numbers short of that (GAD gave the SN to me privately, so I won't include it here...). I don't recall Hans ever indicating that there were more than 197 made in 1994.

IIRC, Hans indicated that there were "about 50" DV-72s made in 1993 with the LK prefix. The highest number I have seen (I have 13 LK SNs in my spreadsheet, all turquoise) is 6L6's recent purchase, which is #46.

Congratulations! I miss Gryphon's in Palo Alto, I have been there a couple of times and always enjoyed the visits but that is now already 10 years ago! Can't believe how fast time flies...

Thanks! It was a new one to me... You might be interested in knowing that your DV-72 has the latest LK SN in my spreadsheet. AT some point in the past, Hans mentioned there were "about 50" DV-72s with LK SNs made in 1993... so there might be a few beyond yours, but maybe not... I'd guess is has an early Nov 1993 date on its neckblock (#43 has a NB date of 1 Nov 1993... so it depends if it was part of that batch, or a later one). Again, Enjoy!
Hello,

I am new here and have learned from this thread. I recently purchased a near mint 1993 DV72 NTHG with LK000051 with original case. I look forward to learning from everyone here. Cheers!

Howdy, Jason!! Welcome to LTG. You'll not find a better rosewood dread than a DV-72. Mine is from '94 but it's an incredible instrument!! (y)

Looks similar to the one that Iceman had pictures of in another thread. It's really beautiful looking and I'm sure it sounds fantabulous!
Congrats! My envy gene is rising. Welcome JasonT, from another newbie! There's a wealth of knowledge here and the camaraderie is great too!
