Thanks! It was a new one to me... You might be interested in knowing that your DV-72 has the latest LK SN in my spreadsheet. AT some point in the past, Hans mentioned there were "about 50" DV-72s with LK SNs made in 1993... so there might be a few beyond yours, but maybe not... I'd guess is has an early Nov 1993 date on its neckblock (#43 has a NB date of 1 Nov 1993... so it depends if it was part of that batch, or a later one). Again, Enjoy!

Serial number is: LK00046
It's one of the "early" '93s. Mine (now @Iceman's) is 34.

Yoshida, They don’t come up often but the more recent ones I’ve seen typically sell from $2500-$3000, sometimes $3500 depending on condition. The one in Japan is also on ebay for about $3000 so if you can buy direct for a little less it should be a fair price. Good luck!

Mine was $2700 out-the-door (I paid cash). While it played fine as it was, the first few frets had some wear and since I know this one will be in my stash all the way to my final dirt nap, I asked the boys at Gryphon to put in new SS frets and a K&K. That added about $600 to the price. The guitar is nowhere near needing a neck reset.

so lucky you were. $2700 is fair price for this rare high end guitar i think.

Question!

How many DV-72's were made and did all have the HG (High Gloss) designation like mine?

I think the premise behind the entire DV series is to achieve a certain tone and sound, that all of the models meet in spades. Yes, there may be quality differences of woods between the DV-52 and the DV72, and of course bling, but essentially I'd be satisfied with any of the DV models. I've ownd three DV series models: DV-52, DV72 and DV62 in that order, and all three have been stellar.

I'd always heard/read 197 DV72's built, though I think Hans has told me a few more than that. I do not know of a satin or HR finish on any of the DV72 and above models.

It's definitely more than that. ~200 includes the ones with serial numbers that start with "AD", but there's 40 or so more that start with "LK", like the one I had.

Yes, as I'd mentioned, long ago Hans had told me there were more. That 197 number was published someplace a long time ago. It was when I bought my DV72 that I joined this website in fact. I wanted to learn more about Guild at that point. So that was '05 and I guess she was 11 years old back then.

Ah, here's where I got 197, 1994. But yes, I knew they'd built more.

Either way, there certainly aren't many of them. Pretty remarkable that I've played or owned five of them at that rate. There were 250 Martin D18 David Crosby Signature models made (mine in 199), and I've never even seen another, much less played one.

Yeah, I noticed on Reverb earlier that there was one seller, a member here I think, though don't know who, had two of them for sale at once and must have sold them together. One was a MK. For as few as there were, they must really get around. Mine's not going anywhere. 😊 They'll pry mine "from my cold dead hands"..........oh wait, that's not guitars, is it? And I hope no time soon. Too much of that (people leaving us) going around these days.

Hey Jim... Because of the uncertainty in the number of DV-72s made in '93 (with the LK numbers), I usually just say "about 250" when asked how many were made.

IIRC, the seller of the pair OF DV-72s wasn't a member here... the buyer was. I believe it was LTGer awagner that bought them: a turquoise and a malachite (MK)...
