Now this is a "Classic Vibe" instrument. Pretty cool!

Nice! I've seen a few of these cello conversions before, though unfortunately only online, not in person. I've been tempted on multiple occasions to finally get an upright bass again after more than a decade break from the sport, but given our small house and a music room that's already chock-full of instruments, space is an issue. One of these may be the answer, but without the opportunity to try out locally, I may never know... can't even imagine (safely) shipping something like this o_O

Is this a converted cello, or an instrument built from the bottom up?

Good question! Looking a bit closer (and noting the "thinline" title), it does indeed seem to be a thinline cello-size/shaped body built from scratch. I've seen a few on the talkbass forum where somebody converted a cello with a Fender-style neck, with mixed results. Maybe the reason why this one sounds so good is due to the fact that it's designed and built 100% from scratch.

Does it have a standard bass tuning?
