Anybody else in the northeast loose power from the storm that ripped through Wed pm?

We‘ve been out since 5 pm. Got the generator running. Sure glad it’s not winter yet!

I'm not in the NE but this kind of post online amuses me because I definitely remember a time when if I had no power I also had no internet. I wouldn't see the post until my power was back. I understand if you have a charged cell phone, a good data plan, and a local cell tower that has power or good backup power, that is no longer the case but asking the question online still makes me smile.

I guess I hadn’t thought about that since I use my phone more often than my ‘puter for surfing and forums because it’s so much more convenient. But you are right, it wasn't so long ago that a power outage meant no internet.

Power still on in Skylands, thank goodness. My friend in Mendon, MA lost power for the night, but I think it's back on now.

We were out from a little after 6:00 PM last night until 10:10 AM this morning! Very unusual. Have always avoided buying a generator as when power goes out its usually a couple hours then back on...even during the 2010(?) ice storm. At about 8 this morning I was thinking how unprepared we were...though I did find all our flashlights ;)

One car was in street, storm came up so quickly never got it into driveway...next door neighbor usually parks in street but put his in his driveway...branch took out sunroof and shark-tail antenna. Bummer. Just saw this afternoon, rear neighbor probably got his upper-in-line Toyota totaled by a birch branch coming down from about 50 feet..cleaved roof, hood and lost windshield. Son's neighbor had tree come down into my son's driveway, but had tree company there at 7:00 this morning to remove it...big oil-pan-eating hole left in his driveway...neighbor's insurance won't pay for ANYTHING, said it was an act-of-God. F*&Ck#rs!

It was really like a micro-burst, lasted about 10-15 minutes here. Never even had a hurricane through with wind like this, been here 42 years...

Mrs. Fro. got a new car because of a microburst. Typically my car is on the street and her's in the drive. For whatever reason that was swapped. The tree missed my car (but blocked it in the drive) but the top landed on hers. Between homeowner's and car insurance we got a lot paid (car was totaled) and the tree guy wrote his bill in such a way that most of his work was paid for. None of the insurance would clean up the mess but one of the policies would pay to make it so the driveway was usable.

When I lived in Kansas a microburst removed a good portion of the roof of my house. They are just as bad as tornadoes.

We lost power for about 5 hours last night, in the metrowest area of MA. Plenty of generators were humming in our neighborhood. :)

The grand-prize winner of a fallen "branch", was a 30-foot section from the top of a white pine tree near my office.

June, 2015 we had a macroburst here in South Jersey that knocked out our power for 60 hours. I ended up getting one of the last small Generacs in a 150-mile radius. Cell service including 4G LTE stayed up for about 6 hours, then dwindled away as generators at the cell sites around us ran out of fuel. Generator was enough to power fridge, upright freezer, and keep gas hot water heater running (VERY important to She Who Must Be Obeyed), along with my router and an outlet strip for small devices. Only damage for me was losing one leader of my very large sycamore tree in my back yard. It sat on the ground until late August when my tree guy could finally get to it. When I called him, he said, "First, I'm dealing with trees IN houses. Then I'll deal with trees ON houses. Then I'll get to you."

Verizon FiOS and cell service came back about 24 hours before the grid came back. And when it did, I had power, but folks on the other side of my block were out for another 36 hours.

Without artificial lights inside or out, my internal clock seemed to reset to "it's getting dark, go to bed" pretty quickly.

Shrewsbury, MA. No power loss. Blew in and out in literally 4 minutes. Could have been much worse.

Still out after 24 hours. No damage luckily. Big tree down on top of one of my neighbors’ house. Minor injuries to one person. Glad I took down all the risky trees around me house years ago after a close call.

I’m in a small town we’re usually last to get serviced if it’s wide spread. I heard about 1/4 million in MA alone without power. I think the storm was worse north into VT and NH but not sure of the damage. Got the geney refilled for another night
