Messing with the DADGAD tuning on the D-4 I was doing some finger picking bits while bending the B string via behind the nut and I thought surely there’s a noninvasive method for adding a B bender to an acoustic without major surgery nor damages the guitar in any way. Anyone know of such a system? Am I absolutely insane? Seems like DADGAD really works tremendously with a B bender!

I bet GAD knows.
I swear there was a pic recently of a super heavily modified acoustic guitar...forget how long ago, maybe 3 weeks?
might give you some ideas.

Yeah, you're insane!

Actually that would be a cool sound but I don't think I would want to modify any of my acoustics accordingly.

If I want to do that, I use my electric guitar with the vibrato arm.

Tie your guitar strap to the B string, behind the nut. Run the strap under the treble side of the headstock, between the nut & the high e-string tuner.

Then, when you push down on the guitar's neck, it'll bend the B string.

Or maybe break it. 🙃

You would need to screw the b-bender into the endblock and put some padding on the guitar top, but that would be about it. Might muffle the top though.

That would be a little invasive, and hanging 8 or so ounces of metal, cantilevered off a bridge and saddle just may, possibly, have an adverse effect on tone, considering the effort that his made to optimize top thickness and bracing patterns to ensure maximum resonance. I could be wrong, though.

The most unobtrusive way to do this is to buy a Strat.

I've seen people reach over the nut and bend strings between the nut and the tuner post, and I've seen archtop players bend strings between the trapeze tailpiece and the saddle.
