New old mandolin day - it has arrived. But it's cold so I am letting it acclimate for a while before opening it. Drum roll...

Well it sounds like an old Gibson mandolin! Needs a little TLC - new strings, a drop of oil on the tuners, lemon oil on the fretboard, bridge adjustment. Photos coming!

Glad it all worked out for you.
Those ‘20s ‘A’ models can surely be super sweet!

Mando fever! ;]

I love it when you get an instrument and you pour the love into it, and then all the sudden it sounds like something, ringing like a bell, and then only getting better from there.

Weird thing is everything could be up to snuff when you're done but it still kinda sounds like rat poop, constantly needing retuning, etc, this could go on for days, and then suddenly, it just kinda pulls out of it and starts sounding good, age old cobwebs finally clearing away.

So...a drop of veg oil on the tuners and they buttered right up, turning smooth now. New strings, lemon oiled the fretboard.

There's that sound! I can't describe it, but I know it when I hear it.

Nothing like 200+ year old wood! I assume the wood was at least 100 years old when this thing was manufactured.

Photos still forthcoming...
