I do believe you are right. .. certainly about Tom Jacobs. It's clear after chatting with him that he has the experience bring this old guitar back. It's packed up and ready to got to Florida.
I appreciate the difficulty of working on devices or systems that are unfamiliar having spent decades as a technician in telecom and data. The last person I want to service anything for me is someone who is going to learn on my equipment. The second to last person is someone who HAS worked on the equipment and never wants to work on it again.
I was frustrated because I couldn't find anyone who I was confident knew what they were doing and/or actually wanted to do it. The reality is the folks who told me they don't work on Guilds probably did me a big favor.

Have you tried calling Curt at Old School Guitar Repair? Located in Hopewell, NJ.

He does excellent work, although I have no idea re: his workload or current backlog.

Old School Guitar Repair
Yes I did.
We had a nice chat and by looking at his website I agree that he does nice work. He has a backlog of jobs and wasn't in a position to take on more work.

Chris, you've already gotten the message about Tom Jacobs clearly, but just one more rave review from me. When I needed work done on one of my cherished Guilds, I shipped from Las Vegas, NV to Merritt Island, FL because I knew he was the right guy to do the job. So add one more gold star onto his pile of them, okay? (y)
