Slow couple weeks, nothing imperative to buy, so after a little haggling this will be headed here from Brooklyn NY.
The reason I wanted it wasn't for originality because my Black to Birdseye Maple SF-4 recipient is far from original with access cavities and wiring mods, but because I realized I was banging my hand into the MV knob, which was a full figured Guild knob, a little too big (covered the missing marker hole) and definitely too tall, the real problem.
So I bought this one tiny knob which we looked at in a thread a while back, and I'm here to report on that knob.
It's too loose, turns a split shaft pot but would fall right off, adding a little strip of printer paper took care of that just fine.
The other problem is that is a little too small around, and is slightly lacking in diameter as I asked seller in Brooklyn to measure the original, .750 = 3/4", about 1/32" bigger, so there is a slight but unfavorable size difference.
Still sitting a little too tall and the pot nut fully exposed lead me to realize that maybe the reason why Guild used this set screw knob is that because - and you can see the relief for the nut underneath - the knob can be slid down much lower, all the way to the wood, hiding the nut, and lowering the knob down for a much better lower profile.
So in the end, it was the only one out there, and I got it, so I have to feel smug about that.
Silly money for one knob, but when it comes to my latest baby Guild and maybe one of my ultimate Guilds ever. I really bond with electrics, they're like toys.
Also found pins for my markers in wife's pin cushion. With high powered glasses, I found a couple pins with really nice heads, the pin shaft sizes are too small to stay in place properly but with the tiniest drop of Elmer's will hold them place just fine until some real ones come along.
Here's a pic of the current MV knob and new body markers, there are two of them, and you'd be hard pressed to tell from originals, their heads being a little taller and rounder.
You can see the push/pull coil tap tone knobs up in the last pic. The bass pickup volume marker is the one from the old pincushion. My markers are a silvery probably nickel plated, so the pins are a great match and at any rate better than a hole.
You can actually see a shadow line in the lacquer from the bigger knob that looks like it was that way for a long time.
