Har har, that looks like a Michigan pothole in the Spring.

We have an annual "Worst pothole contest." One year, the winner said "You could turn this pothole upside down and play football in it."

New Jersey roads are famous for potholes and illogical routes: The routes of the oldest roads may be due to the fact that Colonial-era road crews were partially paid in applejack, aka "Jersey Lightning, a double-distilled apple brandy made from hard cider. By the late 18th century, Jersey was making about 25% of the nation's applejack.

Applejack and hard cider were the two alcoholic beverages most available in our young nation. Johnny Appleseed was beloved because where he went on the frontier, booze soon followed.

FWIW, hard cider was partially exempt from prohibition. Farmers were allowed to make and keep it for their hired hands...

Well, that's entirely understandable...especially seeing as the county commissioners were all farmers...

Wow, what a thread veer! From NJ potholes to strong cider!
One song in my repertoire is an Irish drinking song concerning a brand of strong Irish cider called Johnny Jump Up.
The chorus goes
Oh never any never nay never again
Though I live to 100 or 110
I fell to the floor, and I couldn't get up
After drinking a pint of old Johnny Jump Up.
