What a beauty! I would have kept my DS1-A if the neck profile wasn't so gigantic.
One of the things I love about the D1 and D2 is that with a 1 11/16" nut, the neck feels identical to my DV72 to me.
Jim, that is one DREAMY guitar right there. It looks edible!! And with the gold tuners..... YUM!! Collings makes amazing guitars, and that one is just beautiful. Pardon my drool!! Looking forward to more photos over the coming week. Your new guitar week makes me weak in the knees!!
Thank you Tom, I love them too. They are very unique guitars. I pulled it off the Tone-rite to check it out late last night (make sure there were no rubs anywhere from the vibration) and spent 2 hours playing it. Playing it I get goosebumps. The sound! My gosh.

I couldn't get all my links to post, so I had to post them separately. The quality of a guitar, or the perception of that quality is completely subjective. Your favorite guitar might not melt my butter, nor my favorite might not be your cup of tea. I'll always acknowledge that. Most folks who acquire a new guitar are pretty pumped about it and have nothing but praise for their new beauty. I'm the same way, but having said that, I'll also say this. ;):) I've never played a guitar with the smoothness of action or the incredible articulation of notes and tone in my entire life. This D1A is amazing and I find myself unable to put it down.

Not to install the LR Baggs Venue system in her. I've never installed a pickup system, so this should be interesting. I'm still trying to figure out just how to maneuver these fat hands and fingers inside this little bitty sound hole to get it done. The only reason I haven't done it yet is that I'm loving the sound of this thing exactly the way Collings set it up. I'm not ready to pull the strings (literally) yet. I've had Collings drill a 1/2" hole to accommodate the Baggs transducer as I wasn't about to punch that hole in this guitar. The Baggs Venue does however have an under saddle pickup as well, and Collings refused to drill that hole (3/32" under the end of the saddle in the corner of the saddle slot), so I'll have to drill that one.

I've run the Tone-rite on her for 3 days, and this time I'd say there is a pretty noticeable improvement. I'm chalking that up to her being a brand new guitar. I've been skeptical about the function and alleged successes of the Tone-rite, but I honestly believe it's helped to open up my new guitar.

Wow! What a work of art!

walrus
I don't know how they consistently find such amazing woods Walrus. Thank you sir. Every back and side hand selected for tone and beauty by the same man for 30 years. He knows what he's doing. Unfortunately, that man, Bruce Van Wart retired about 2 months ago, :) but not before he selected my woods.

Bob Minner's tribute to Bruce.

Now I need you member's help. I need a guitar that sounds incredible, needs no work, and is a known workhorse. I was thinking a DV52, Westerly DV6 or Nice D25. If any of you happen to see one in great shape pop up, don't hesitate to holler. The problem with expensive guitars is that I'm a nervous wreck taking them out, so I need what some would refer to as a "beater', but a beater in fabulous shape. A beater that hasn't been beaten!

I FEEL YOUR PAIN brother. Obviously the D25 is going to be easiest to secure. I bought two less than $500 each one, for that exact purpose. Though they were in very good condition, I just keep looking. Neither need any repairs, just cosmetic and a pickup.

Sorry, I'm a little confused. Your signature shows you own a DV52 and a D25 or did you sell those and have yet to update your signature?

If I could figure out how to change what's in my signature, I'd have done it. There are several changes in there I need to make. But I do still have my D25, she just needs a little work. I've actually been through three DV52's, but have sold them all over the years. Three D55's. My DV73 also belongs to another member now, as does my JF30-12. But at this point, I've pretty well minimized my collection down to 5 guitars. After I got this new Collings, it seems everybody and his brother are telling me to bring it to an outdoor party or a hunting lease to play. Hence, the need for a less expensive guitar that sounds great. My D25 is in need of work I'm not willing to put into it, so I'm looking for another "beater" guitar. I've attempted to change my signature three or four times, I just haven't been able to figure out how to do it. : ) And yes, I can see how my signature just might make this post a bit confusing.

Jim, it's easy. Just click on your name and icon in the top blue bar. A drop down menu appears. You'll see selections on the left and right. Just to the right of "Account details" you'll see "Signature". Click on that and your signature will appear and you can edit to your hearts content!! Just make sure you hit the SAVE button at the bottom before you leave that window. Try that and we'll see.....

I’d be concerned that an UST would alter the sound and playability of a perfect instrument. How about a K&K instead.

nice geetar!

I am a bit myself rb. It's a good point. In fact, after I'd ordered, I asked Collings to drill 2 holes for me before they shipped. The first is the 1/2" hole for the transducer at the end pin. The did that flawlessly, but when it came to the hole in the saddle slot for the UST, Collings didn't want to do it, so I have to. I never asked WHY they wouldn't drill that hole, but common sense tells me it's because they don't want ANYTHING under their saddles. Fact is though that if need be, I can go back with an original saddle and forget the idea.

I see what you're talking about there Tom, but see no way to "edit" the signature.

I am using MS Edge browser. On my drop-down menu, there is an entry noted as Signature; I just click on that to edit my signature.

Frono fixed it for me. Thanks Fro. See my new signature. I've just about got the collection down to a manageable level. Thanks Tommy.
