Well…I figured since I already have an X-80 and an X-79-3….let’s go for a regular X-79. Earlier model with chesterfield headstock (AD100099) (Am stuck in the 80’s with these pointy guitars, but not a headbanger) Needs a bit of cosmetic work like a repaint on the headstock and new pickguard made (as it’s cracking around the jack). Also has scratchy pots that need cleaning. Non original P/U’s but will see if they make the cut.

Congrats Skylark. The bridge pickup does look like an original DiMarzio made Guild XR7 HB. So, with yours, we know that at least 99 were made with the Chesterfield headstock necks. Mine is #82. It didn't have the original PUs and I bought a really rough X-79 to take out the PUs to restore this one. Enjoy!!

They are claiming both pickups were replaced…the bridge measured 16k on their meter…that sounds too hot for XR7..but when I get done playing with her for a bit, will check out and take pics of back of pickups for ID…neck PU looks funky, almost like a rail on half…

Skylark, I read in their description that the bridge measured 8.6K which is about right for the XR-7 humbucker and the bobbins have the brownish-gray look of an XR-7. Let us know what you find out.

I read it wrong…so they put the 16k in the neck (fyi I hate it)….but chances are they will both be replaced. SD SH-2 (Jazz in neck) and SH-4 JB in bridge…

Best research on the neck pickup without taking it out, looks like. Dimarzio DP155…at 16k, it’s a bridge pickup…people just put crap in…well that will be coming out. If the bridge is an XR-7, might just move that to neck and put in a JB I have around…will see
