I stopped by a rummage sale yesterday on a whim and a booth had some music gear that caught my attention. I ended up buying a very dusty and grimey 2001 Ignacio M. Rozas T-2A for $40 along with 3 electric pedals and a LR Baggs M80 for a total sum of $400. I was not familiar with the guitar maker but it seemed well built with solid woods so I took a shot on it.

Can anyone tell me anything about the maker, and what the 'T' in the 'T-2A' implies? My preliminary research tells me it's a decent guitar and that 2A is usually inferior materials to 1A but not indicative of a lower quality. I also read that unsigned labels indicate it was not built by Ignacio himself. I found one other similar model, a 'T-1A' currently on Reverb and eBay.

If anyone knows the finish type too that would be appreciated. I would take an educated guess that was French polished. There is a white haze on the back of the guitar that I'd like to address if possible. I will try to get some more pics this afternoon of the back/sides.

Looks like a lovely guitar, Hobbes. Congrats.

The model name sounds vaguely related to Jose Ramirez’s. I.e., a “1A” by pretty much any builder would be copying Ramirez’s 1A. Maybe Ramirez was even copying from someone else. Also, I don’t know if Ramirez built a 2A, but others might.

I did read that Ignacio Rozas worked for Ramirez in 60s and 70s before starting his own company in the 80s. It does seem many builders use the 1A and 2A designation from my limited research. I think this guitar was either an apprentice build under him or perhaps a factory build because it does not have his signature on the label. The 'T' in "T-2A" has me stumped... There is a 2003 T-1A on Reverb but not much more information is included.

Yeah, I see that Ramirez still has a web site and there is something called a 2A, Hobbes. (y)

I’m sure that whatever you have is likely a copy/homage/influenced by a Ramirez 2A!

T… Well, no idea. Probably an abbrev. of a Spanish word. Who knows? Have you tried contacting the builder? It’s possible he/they are still around 25 years later.

Found a few pages and forum threads on Rozas (links below). It seems like the Guitarra de Artesanía series was produced by Alhambra. Instruments handmade by Rozas himself should be signed on the label and are generally model 1a; some other models were made in his workshop while others were factory-produced.

It seems to me like 1a and 2a may just be designations of quality, where 1a is the top model and 2a is next. If I'm right about that, I think they may be the abbreviations of "primera" and "segunda", i.e. 1st and 2nd. No idea what the T stands for, though.
