Less than a month after my last Guild purchase I added a third!

Purchased from a guy in London who tried to get into solid bodies for jazz but decided to stick with archtops. I live in Scotland and the owner was hesitant to ship so took an overnight train down and came back the next night with the guitar. We agreed on £550 ($675) to offset some of the cost to travel, which I think was a fair price.

The stock pickups were swapped for PRS McCartys at some point. They sound pretty good, if a little dark and not as clear as the Guild HB-1s on my X-160 Savoy. May consider swapping them out down the line so open to suggestions. It it strung with Thomastik Jazz 11 flats which I will probably keep. A previous owner drilled 3 small holes to install a pickguard at some point, but those were filled at some point and aren't really noticeable. The wiring was also redone and one of the pots replaced, but it is otherwise original.

Besides that just usual wear, some minor buckle rash on the back and a few dings and scratches, nothing too bad. Case is in pretty good condition as well for the age, which is a plus. The guitar is a nice weight at around 8lbs and really comfortable to play.

The previous owner didn't know what year this was built. SN is CL000688

That’s gorgeous, excellent grains, and the back of the neck catches my eye for some reason, nice one!

That’s a great looking guitar at a great price. Congratulations.

I would guess that it’s a 1997 ???

Also I believe the original pups would have been Seymour Duncan if you are interested in getting it back to original.

Thanks! I'm really happy with the top too. Yep, took an overnight at midnight and arrived in London at 6am. Made the most of the day sightseeing, picked up the guitar in the evening, and then was back home by 1am very exhausted.

re: the pickups, I read that people aren't too fussed about the original Seymour Duncans so was curious about alternatives. There are some cool boutique pickups out there and I'm curious what other BB owners have tried.

Thanks for all of the PU suggestions! Will give it some thought (though the McCartys aren't bad in the meantime). Have been playing it some more this may be my most comfortable guitar, the neck/scale length/nut width are perfect for me.

It's awesome that the guitar was made in '97, that makes us the same age :)

Beautiful guitar. All in the ears of the beholder of course, but I’m a big fan of the stock 59’s. They’re quiet and allow the tone of the body to shine and they take pedals like a champ, clean or dirty.

Beautiful guitar at a price that is really low on this side of the pond.
