Very cool! Yes, nothing worse than totally dead, old strings on an acoustic. I also use EJ16s as a go to string (among others these days). Some day I need to get an all mahogany guitar.

I wonder if that is a poly finish? Most were Matt finished. Very shiny!

Yeah I’m pretty sure it’s nitro. 20 years ago we used oil based clear grain fillers with natural nitro finishes. Because poly finishes are a lot thicker grain fillers weren’t always needed. This one’s definitely got grain filler. 2-3 coats of oil based filler and it to days for each coat to dry. These grain fillers would eventually turn cloudy later on like these photos. But I love it and gives the mahogany character I think. Today folks are using new water based clear fillers that dry in hours and do not shrink or get cloudy down the road.

I've been playing it a lot for the last couple of days. It's really nice sounding, big low end and very bright. The bass strings are overwhelming the trebles, especially the E. I may drop down a gauge, I'm in no hurry to change. No buyer's remorse at all it's so much better than my previous D15.
It's such a different feel than playing a 12 string. When I get acclimated I'll post a video.
