LTG member ClaytonS15 sold his beautiful GF30 today and I was fortunate enough to buy it. I’ve been playing it off and on all day and I’m really glad I bought this beauty. I had one before and traded it in as partial payment for a Waterloo WL-K but I had sellers remorse pretty quickly. This guitar is in better shape than the one I traded and I’m really glad I had the chance to get it. 2557030C-3BAF-4DC6-82E8-2ED4637BE92D.jpeg78FF0610-D145-47BD-A1FF-16EAFBFA6814.jpeg

Congrats David. She is a real beauty for sure. A real looker. How would you describe the sound?

Lovely and round. Whereas my Waterloo WL-K has a nice twangy honk, the Guild is more bell-like. It sounds great with the Travis picking I do but it makes me want to play jazzier stuff to really take advantage of that round tone. When I strum a chord it just rings out beautifully.

Congrats on acquiring such a nice guitar. It is beautiful. What year is it? I am partial to maple Guilds, especially from that era. I own a 1988 GF60

A GF30 is on my shortlist, for all the reasons you mention. Like I always say, I love a guitar that does something that my others don't or can't. And the GF30 might hit a sweet spot between my F44 and DCE1. Now there's a Venn diagram in head.

My two Godin made six strings, one a 12 fret parlor, and the other LG-ish, are as close as I'll get to a Waterloo any time soon. But as I've proudly mentioned before I actually like my LG-ish S&P Folk better than the couple of vintage vibed ("Whiskey Sunset") Martin 00-17s I've played.

I bought my GF30 around 1990 from a guy in a trailer near Tucson. Brought it back to England.
Its got such a good sound. Great for dynamic rhythm or very quiet. Does all that easily. Fits the body well. Using Elixir extra light at the moment. Very nice. Was on just the ‘lights’ . No great difference in volume etc.
pic with my other guitar, Fender Villager. Might be 60’s. Essays could be written on that too..very low strat like action.

Love those pics if your GF30’s! I would so much love one of these, or any GF, if I can find one with with a wider nut.

Congratulations David. Very nice. I've always loved the 30 series Guilds. I've always loved the beige binding against maple. They seem to record well too. What's your opinion of your Waterloo? They are different animals, aren't they?:) Every time I hear a Waterloo, I think of the old blues players.

I love my Waterloo. It’s incredibly light and resonant and has a bluesy “honk” that just begs for a thumping thumb style of playing. It’s also a bit of a one trick pony. When I play my GF30 I’m amazed at how good it is, not for the price, but just how freaking good.

Nothing wrong with a one trick pony when that one trick is super cool and satisfying! My GF30 was fun. Had the reddish burst top. Was on the way to a fret job and potentially a reset if memory serves. Sold it. Wouldn't mind adding another to the stable one day.
