Well I made a road trip today from my home in Toledo Washington to Corvallis Oregon. I found this CMG built 2018 F40 traditional. It’s very lightly built which must be a feature of the Oxnard built Guilds. It sounds incredibly loud and the bass is very prominent yet still articulate in the higher register strings. I’m impressed. It’s set up very nice and lots of fun to play. I have to make a video of my guitars tuned similarly so a good comparison can be made. It’s a jumbo size with a 17” lower bout. CMG makes them with bone nut, saddle and bridge pins. The braces are Adirondack spruce. I’m not certain if this is a Ren Ferguson influenced model but my hat is off to the CMG for keeping Guild a very high quality built guitar 0E9A839F-A4C2-4583-B403-22F750C66364.jpeg

Congrats! That looks like it's in really nice shape. I remember seeing that on CL and the price was reasonable too. Nice score!

For a traditional model I thought the price was very reasonable. It’s all relative to what a person’s frame of reference price wise has been for Guilds. With a new price of close to $2600 and this one being 4 years old but near mint I thought it was a good deal. I know that not that many years ago used Guilds could be had quite cheap. It’s almost like old stereo gear that was 10 years ago quite cheap suddenly becoming vintage and expensive. BTW the person I bought it from was a very amicable and hospitable individual that wanted to have a conversation over a hot cup or tea. It was quite a pleasant experience.

Nice find Richt54. I think a few people here have purchase that model and have nothing but good things to say. It is nice to see Guild is still producing quality instruments.

They really are. My D40 Traditional is so good that I have moved the '66 on to another LTGer. I've been intrigued by the F40 Traditional, and came close to buying one from Tundra. It's so close to my Orpheum in spec though, and as good as I'm sure it is if it's anything like my D40, it's hard to imagine it being better. @richardp69 can probably expound on this more, as I think he's owned multiples of both.

And congratulations @richt54!

I really liked the Oxnard F 40 T. It has a huge sound yet stays pretty balanced without a lot of the low end "muddy" you can sometimes get on a Jumbo guitar. I've owned two and sold them both but not because I didn't like them. I'm just always moving gear to try something else. I sold my last one on Reverb and to this day, I continue to get thanks and rave reviews from the buyer. I only sold it because I also a Orpheum Jumbo and I liked it just a tad better. But now, in my downsizing mode I'm considering selling my Orpheum Jumbo and keeping my GAD F-48 which is not as nice a guitar as either the F 40T or the Orpheum Jumbo but likely is good enough for me. I have a LTGer and past customer interested in the Orpheum Jumbo. We'll see I guess.

Don't do it Rich, just don't. Sell the GAD for crying out loud! I had a F48 for a short time, and it sounds like a transistor radio compared to the Orpheum. You know you'll have a near impossible time finding another when you do regret selling it, and you will.

Done deal Sandy, it will be shipped out next week. I'm just committed to getting down to something reasonable and although the GAD is not the guitar an Orpheum is or an Oxnard F 40T for that matter it's likely good enough for my purposes.

You can tell yourself that all you want, but there are folks here that know you better than that! LOL

I get it. I could easily go with my 12 string and just one of my three 6 strings. Especially as I get older. The J40 would definitely be a TOP contender.

Is it just a part of aging that one wants to deburden oneself of possessions? I had the good fortune of buying some great audio gear from a guy who was 75. He had his McIntosh setup and everything else went. Got a nice Fisher 500 from him. Later I got the SET bug and bought a Bottlehead kit and it's all I use. So here I am, 73 and looking at an unused Dynaco ST 70,a Scott, a couple of preamps, and an extra pair of AR speakers. I do use an ST70 kit I built, my ARxa turntable and Celestions inside the house. But I have a few guitars I don't use, and amps too. I could live with four guitars and two mandolins too.

Continually impressed with this austere highly functioning, great sounding CMG produced Guild F40 traditional. I think everyone here should own one.
