So here is my new Guild addition. It's a 2005 D-55 made in Tacoma, Washington. And that's where I picked it up. It definitely has its own vibe. Certainly not the D-50 from Tacoma sound. Maybe closer to my Westerly RI DV-52. Not quite flawless but nothing bad for 2005.

You did it! How awesome, HNGD! and yes, thats a very sharp looking axe. I vaccillated between burst and natural myself, but looks like we're both going to be strumming up some songs on new to us classic ole D55's in 2022. Congrats!

Congratulations! Having both a Tacoma D55 and a Tacoma D50 gives you an interesting opportunity to make comparisons about the effect of sitka vs. red spruce. Are those the only differences in spec (aside from the bling)?

They are tone monsters in their own right. I'm sure your ears will be pleased. Let me know your thoughts after you get it and play it.

I think that the braces for the top are the Adirondack or red spruce. I didn't think I would like the sound as much since the top was Sitka. But I'm finding a different but very pleasant tone. The neck seems slightly flatter but very comfortable. Since it is the TOTL production dreadnaught, body wood choice was probably better. That's just speculation on my part. On the D-50's since it was red spruce tops which to my ear gives a different overall sound. I think a little deeper, richer and louder sound. The NH d-50 that you have was louder than the Tacoma d-50. Not certain as to why.

I was wondering if there was a volume difference between the Tacoma and New Hartford Traditional D50s. The New Hartford is a proverbial cannon.

And that is one of the reasons I sold my Northwood OM-80 after I received that NH D-50. My wife liked the deep rich bottom end of the NH. Also, notice one thing on the pic of the back of all three dreads. The Tacoma D-50 (far left) has scratches across the back. The NH was probably my most pristine guitar. Even the D-55 which was not used much, has more slight imperfections. How did it sound compared to the standard D-50?

I think the bracing is scalloped red spruce. There are videos on YouTube of internet guitar dealers and actual Guild employees describing the specs of the guitar when it was in New Hartford. I didn't know the Cordoba company had also bought out Gibson. I wonder if it was Ren Ferguson that recommended that Guild quit making the American made D-50? Thanks for the pricing info Ralf. $2700 in 2005 is equivalent to $4100 today adjusting for inflation.
