So it's been a looong time since I've been able to do this, but it's finally a New Guild Day for me. Woohoo! I can now check this one off my list.

I spotted this on craigslist and managed to hold off a week or so until I had to give in. Little did I know that this belonged to LTG member Horuss. It was great to meet another local LTGer I knew from the forum. Horuss is super cool, and we had a lot of fun chatting about gear and music. Apparently he bought this from another member, so someone out there might recognize this guitar.

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pic, gang. It's all I have right now.

This is my first non-Hoboken Guild, and my first electric with HB-1s. It wears its players battle scar mojo proudly, which is just how I like'em. It plays perfectly, and all original parts are there. The neck is straight with no deadspots. The electronics could use some De-oxit, but everything works as it should. As soon as I picked it up, it had that familiar Guild feel to it, and I was stoked.

It's too late to let loose the beast right now, but I'm pumped to crank it a little through my SF Deluxe, which seems a better match than my Boogie. I can't wait to get home from work tomorrow!

A huge thanks to Horuss for feeding my Guild obsession! :joyous:

Nifty! I'm really diggin' HB-1s now that I've been able to hear & explore a couple sets through various amps and effects chains.

Congrats JP! That thing looks like it should scream! Not to mention it is the perfect color. Can't wait to hear the report on playing it!

I never really liked black guitars but my 1971 M-75 has grown on me. In a formal tuxedo kind of way, nicks and dings included. For a Guild the neck is pretty full and the pickups are HOT.
Thanks and enjoy. John

Congrats on the purchase & hope you enjoy it to the fullest. Black Guilds are bad-*** & I still have a yearning for a 70's M-75 like yours.

No, but thanks again for your help on that one!

I'm not the best with forum member name recollection, but this black one once belonged to Los Angeles (I think).

I don't think I ever owned this guitar. If I did, I would have never forgiven myself for selling it! :)

EDIT: Well, slap my *** and call me Susan, Yeah, I did own this guitar! I was confused into thinking the guitar in the OP was a '77. If it were, no way would I have sold it.

Still, this really is a roadworn but absolutey roadworthy instrument!

I need to add one thing - now that I'm wired up to full volume again, I've developed an even greater appreciation for the master volume on my X-500's and Starfire, and I've also taken to using the phase switch a LOT in my music. And just the other day, I was thinking "man, I need a guitar with both the phase switch AND a master volume. And of course, this thread pops up. Sometimes you don't realize what you had until it's gone. :)

Now if if just had the fatter frets from '77, then this guitar would be perfect for me. I'm still searching ...

I can personally attest that it is roadworthy. I toured with it last spring. Played shows in Portland, Oakland, SF, L.A., Phoenix, Tucson, Albuquerque, Salt Lake City, and Boise. Perfect tour guitar.

nice! congrats! nice amps!
Thanks, mavuser. I have a host of mods to do to the Mesa DC-3 to really dial it in. The M-75 sounds great through my SF Deluxe and Rivera Super Champ, though.

I love black guitars. This goes well with my black '59 T-100D!

So I've only had a little time to noodle around with this guitar, and it'll take me some time to get used to dialing in sounds on the fly. So far, I like the HB-1s, but I need to figure out how to get the best sounds out of them with my amps. We're still in the "getting-to know-you" period. After being a Strat player for years, the two-volume, two-tone setup is still sometimes too complicated for my troglodyte brain.

And yes, as both you and Horuss mention, this is a totally roadworthy warrior. Everything seems super stable. I haven't gone through my new-axe ritual of deconstruction, clean-polish, De-Oxit, and new strings yet, but I think today is the day.

Thanks, Tom! I just finished cleaning, restringing, and setting it up. Tomorrow I have time for more playing. I'm also gonna help my son learn his new chosen rock band tune, so I can run it through its paces. I can't believe he chose this song. Love it!

That's the perfect opportunity to use the phase switch! It's got that pinched-nose honking tone that makes 70's riff-rock come alive under your fingertips.
