Expanding Richard's pics, I think I see what you mean about the tortoiseshell binding.

Mine is defintiely black, but matches Richard in terms of thickness.

thanks. that would be the first I've heard of that. but obviously not so far-fetched. on my 1970 F-20, it really, really, looks black, but is not. Richard's serial number is between OG 500-OG 600. I'll let him elaborate further, if he chooses

Gotta look at my binding when I get back.

Funny, I "settled" for my cherry red example as it was in such great shape in spite of wanting a BR...thanks to Woods incessant gushing....but the cherry really grew on me over time.

I like going back and forth with it and the spruce topped D-26....apples and oranges but still fun.
