It was the search for an X-79 that brought me to this site and I ended up eventually joining last year .
In ‘81 or’82 my friends father bought him a White X-79 … and my friends and I were super jealous . It was such a beautiful guitar .
Fast forward to a few years ago when I started to search . I couldn’t remember what model it was and as you all know , search for anything Guild and this is where you wind up 😃 And there it was …X-79!!
I passed on a few because I thought they were too much money only to find they are more money now 😂
Anyway here’s my new X-79 in Metallic Blue (Green) It’s had a fresh refret ( edit, not SS ) It’s definitely been played , a pickup ring was replaced and 2 new CTS pots but over all in nice shape !
I’m pretty excited about this one even though it’s not really me anymore .
Enough rambling

Very cool!
Yep. These days it's hard to get into the groove of playing a wild hair band guitar like an X79 but they are a work of art to look at and display. Or maybe a better description is sculptured piece of musical art.

Very cool and congrats!!

I have a Candy Apple Red one, an early black one with the "Chesterfield" headstock...

and one I did a rescue/restoral job on.

I notice yours has the strap button at the end of the long upper horn. They later moved that to the back of the horn so the the guitar centers on your body better. The strap being attached to the end of the long horn tends to pull the whole body to your right.

Have fun with your X-79!!!

They all look great !
The rescue is cool . At that point anything goes then when bringing it back to life!

I can see where the strap button is on the last pic. It seems like it makes more sense there
When did that change? I believe mine is an '84

@Anarchris - Yes, you can see on the photo of the back of the rescue/restore X-79 where the strap button was moved to. I'm not sure exactly when Guild changed the position of the strap button from the end of the long horn to the back of the horn.

This guitar was a beat up black holograph sparkle model that I bought for the electronics to use to restore the black Chesterfield headstock model. Someone had changed the pickups and wiring on that one.

I had some paint stripper in the garage and stripped the paint off the back of the 'beater' and it had beautiful grain. So, I stripped all the paint off the guitar, except for the logo area on the headstock. I put a couple coats of cherry stain on the poplar body to bring out the grain and put tung oil on the mahogany neck. Put in a pair of Bill & Becky Lawrence L500 humbuckers and my son, who was 10 at the time, named it "Woody".
