Did a bunch of reseach on the Guilds before buying and with research and reading posts on this forum, picked up a new Tacoma DV-6 at a store about 40 miles from where I live. Great guitar. It was either that or the GAD 50e, and decided to go for the DV-6. Going to bring it in to the local luthier tomorrow to have him set the action a little better/lower and am thinking of going to 11's. Good or bad decision for that guitar? I like bending a little when I do some blues. Came with EXP 12's they said. Thinking maybe Elixer 11's?

congrats and welcome,
check the john pearse strings, many of the ltg-lers like them a lot - including me - and 11s would be great, I play them on my d-46, too.

Welcome Graz. I'm a relative newbie here, and this is a great forum. You'll get lots of feedback, and nearly as many opinions as members. Especially on strings.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of coated strings. I think they sound a little dead, especially the wound strings. But others love them. I've recently started using John Pearse strings, and I think they make my guitars sound great. Regarding lights vs. mediums, others on this forum have opined that dreads sound best with mediums. I had Guild Extra Lights on my D-40, and when I put on JP lights, I got more resonance and sustain. I'm trying JP mediums next string change.

Bottom line is that string preferences are highly personal. Try some different things, see what you think. That's part of the fun.

By the way, congrats on the DV-6, glad you bought the American made model. Where was it made?

Thanks for the welcome.
It says Tacoma. They had 2, and I scratched and sniffed each until I made my choice. Sounds like JP's may be the thing in 11's. Maybe the luthier will have them.

Welcome, graz. :D

It's always fun and special to get a new guitar,
in part 'cause you don't know all of the songs and inspiration that are in it.

Hope you enjoy your guitar and your stay here.

Graz - Good for you! I have a DV-4 a little over a year now and I find it is quite a fine guitar. It is my "player" - gets the most action of all my instruments. I use it at gigs and jams. Its versatile, sounds great and looks interesting. I'm a happy camper. Yours is one step "up" and should give you lots of joy. Welcome to the crowd.

Nice going, Graz! The DV series is a bit of an under-rated model in the general marketplace for some reason, but the ones I've played have all been excellent. They're a gem.

Welcome aboard!
Post well. Post often.

I like 12-54 strings. They work well for both strumming & fingering. I find that 12s last a bit longer than 11s, and they stay in tune better than 11s when capoed. I use Pearse or Martin SP.
