it sings so much more beautifully now...

Simple, but elegant. Looks like the old "Tobacco 'Burst."

you summed it up: simple, but elegant.

no show or pretense here, just quality sound.

and, yeah... love the finish. Guild did some nice work on this one....

agreed, just a gorgeous color on this.

and yes, didn't realize quite how drab the old strings looked and sounded until i got these on!

I really love that Tobacco 'burst, my buddy has a '75 D35 with that 'burst. Here it is next to my '76 D25M.

What strings?
i went with: D’Addario EJ16-3D Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings

that's the previous set on the guitar based on the packet in the case, and i liked the sound of them, especially after they "weathered" a bit.

what's your string preference...?

I waffle, but maybe about to try D'addarios again.

I had liked Silk n Steels on it.

Even thinking about some flatwounds like EFT15, to get a cleaner sound.

But actually wanting to put the exact factory gauge on it.

It's a '71 that's a bit weathered, but a weatherbeater.

The "3D" actually is only the manufacturers code for 3 sets in a pack! So it's still the normal EJ16 set. They sell as single set, 3 sets (3D), 10 sets (10P) and a 25 bulk pack (B25).

Beautiful axe, ac1dt3st. What's the story on the headstock faceplate? Refinished?
thanks! and... sorry, don't know quite what you mean re. the faceplate. tell me more about that...?

this guitar has been in the family (first my Dad and then me) since about 1973. he bought it used from Schmitt Music in Minneapolis.

there has been no cosmetic work done on it that i know of, although my Dad did have it with him in Alaska for about a decade, so who knows what might have happened then...

I'm guessing Chazmo is not reconizing the rosewood headstock faceplate since most Guilds are black. He also may not be seeling the painted Guild logo on the headstock due to the camera angle. Therefore, he might be assuming that the headstock faceplate has be replaced.
