I wasn't happy with the stock SD '59s (too dark, lacked clarity) so I popped in a set of TVJones Magnatrons. Big difference in sound (for the better). The bridge pu is amazing and is somewhere in the Dynasonic/Telecaster zone. In fact, if blindfolded, I'd swear it was a single coil pickup rather than a humbucker. The neck pickup isn't as bright as I thought it would be, but it has more clarity than the original SD so that's good. As a bonus, the pu covers are chrome which match the other hardware better than the nickle covers on the Duncans. All in all, I'm pleased and I'm sure the Bluesbird will get more play time now. :)

I've got a set of those in an early Reverend Rocco, replacing the original wound-for-jazz Kent Armstrong HBs. They're very nice indeed! The Dyna'Sonic-meets-Tele vibe was exactly the thing that caught my ear about 'em.

I didn’t like the Duncan ‘59s in this BB at all, especially the neck pickup. Upon further inspection, I found the DC resistance to be 8.3K for the neck pu and 8.3K for the bridge. Duncan factory specs say the ‘59s should be 7.6K neck and 8.2K bridge (7.4K neck, 8.1K bridge for the SH-1 set that preceeded the ‘59s). I guess that neck pu somehow got overwound unless the specs changed somewhere along the line.

On my year 2000 Bluesbird the neck pup has 7.7kohms and the bridge 8.5kohms. That was measured with the pickups removed from the circuit.
