Love that they paid tribute to that amazing song!! I think it needs the words... because they drive the song in my opinion. But that's just me.....

Quiz of the day: which river is referred to in "Moon River"?

Moon River, of course, duh.

(To show I am not being snarky, that wasn't the name when the song was written. A portion was renamed after the song became popular).

The Savanah River. Johnny Mercer, the lyricist, was a native of Savanah.

For the words, he went to Mercer, who throughout his career penned the lyrics for more than 1,500 songs. Although many might have thought Manhattan-based Golightly was referring to the Hudson River in New York, the song was actually inspired by the waterways of a Southern city. Mercer wrote the chorus recalling the his childhood home in Burnside Island, Savannah, Georgia, which overlooked Back River, explains Savannah Now. The working title, "Blue River," was adjusted when he realized the title was already taken. A year after the film's release, the Chatham County Commission dubbed a section of the Back River "Moon River".

Google Maps shows "Moon River". I cannot tell which way things are flowing but it looks like Moon River connects to Skidaway River which connects to Wilmington River which connects to the Savannah River. The name "Back River" doesn't seem to appear.

Assuming the veracity of Country Living this seems like one of those answers that is superficially right but the more you know about local geography the more precise the answer can be.
