I ordered a new Compton bridge for my Newark St. Starfire 111- I went with the copper one- and I must say, it's made a definite improvement in the sound. The guitar has better sustain, the notes are clean and clear, with a sweetness and warmth in the tone that was not there before! There is no sharp or brittle sounds, and the individual string and note separation is improved, as well. I'm pretty much a clean player with a lighter touch - mostly older country, some laid-back stuff, a little Texas swing...I don't use any pedals, just a slight bit of reverb on my Fender Twin. I'm using a fairly light set of strings - D'Addario EXL 110W - I really like that wound 3rd string! I'm really happy that I went with the copper bridge - it seems to complement my sound and playing style.☺

Anything that gets the sound you want and helps inspire your playing is a good thing. Enjoy your SF-III!!

I love Compton bridges!

Just a tip because I know forum fonts can make it hard to discern: It’s a Starfire 3, so III (capital i) which is the roman numeral for three.

Thanks for the review! Just ordered a copper tone chambered Compton for my Gretsch Electromatic. If it delivers as hoped, will grab another for my SF. Congrats on your SF!

I can still read Roman numerals at the end of movies.

Just imagine trying to do multiplication or division! Mathematics is not helped by the lack of the concept of zero either.
I don't have to imagine. We had to do it in High School Latin class. Luckily not often. I took 4 years of Latin ... it couldn't have been that bad!

My son actually got paid to use his High School Latin. Short version was that there was a project to start with a play from the early 1600's and produce an annotated version that was suitable for modern performance and scholarly research. His job was to translate any Latin in the text and, to the extent possible, identify the source if the Latin was a quote.

Last veer Frono, I promise. Taking Latin was one of the few smart things I ever did. Instant utility in terms of English vocabulary. Would I have know what "defenestration" meant without Latin? I doubt it. Ditto for so many other words I didn't have too look up. There were other benefits. You know how all the girls love guys who can speak dead languages ...
