Hey guys, I recently came across a seller that has a Guild D25M he is trying to get rid of/ :D Now I've been looking everywhere for an all 'hog D25M and I think this may be it because it dates itself at a '73 with the serial number: 86076. I wasn't exactly sure so I thought I'd check with everyone before I drove 6 hours up north today to get it. Please let me know as soon as possible guys. I like the stained spruce top but I am completely in love with the all 'hog. PLEASE HELP!!! :( :?: :( :?:

Hans may have an idea of the SN range of all-'hog D-25s... maybe he'll see this and chime in.

All I can add is that most (all?) of the all-'hog arched back D-25s I have seen advertised on eBay or elsewhere have been from '73. So it is POSSIBLE this is all 'hog. Mahogany has a pretty distinctive grain pattern, whereas (to my eye) the grain on the stained spruce-topped D-25s is MUCH less prominent. So the only way to really know is to go look at it...

Hope it's what you're looking for. Good luck!

Hello wbl,

A D-25M with serial # 86076 will most likely have a mahogany top. Also, around that time the change from braced flat back to arched laminated back took place, so this guitar could be either version.

Good luck!

Well, I got a pic. I guess it is a flat back and it definitely looks like all 'hog to me.

I'm pretty certain the 'M' signifies Mahogany top but not sure when the backs were changed from two-piece to arched.

Did the seller post photos of the label or the top of the guitar?

...oops, looks like the responses were already covered. Good luck, that looks like a nice instrument other than some cosmetic needs like the loose pickguard.

Nice. Of course we'll expect a full report after you've caressed her curves for awhile :D

Hello wbl,

OK, so it's a mahogany top and a braced mahogany back. This is another good example that shows how things worked at Guild.
The guitar has a 1973 serial number, but it has the label with the 'BIG' Guild logo. That particular label was introduced during 1975, which tells us that this guitar didn't leave the factory any earlier than 1975.

Sincerely,
