I am doing an upcoming article in Collectible Guitar Then & Now on a Guild X-79-3, and I have a deadline of this coming Monday night. The one I inspected had what appeared to be three DiMarzio rail humbuckers that were single coil-sized, along with three mini toggle switches that I assumed were coil taps. The original pickups are included, but I did not see what they were.

Can anybody tell me when the guitar was made? The serial number was AD100917. What were the original pickups and were the three mini toggles standard issue? I'm assuming the original pickups were Strat-like, but don't know for sure. Are there production totals on this guitar and X-79 models in general?

I will give written credit in the article to all who supply information. Thanks in advance.

Hey DrumBob! You might want to send Guilds of Grot a PM here on the forum, He has just about every Guild model ever made and probably send you the info you seek as I have seen him post about X79's here on the forum before. Also I wouldn't hesitate to drop Hans a line either. He probably has all the factory specs right off the top of his head. Best of luck with your article and have a good one!

Hey DrumBob,

Here's a photo of my X-79-3.

I don't remember what pick-ups they are, but I believe they're original.

(Hans will know a lot more then I do.)

Thanks, guys. I will contact Hans. The mini toggles are on/off switches. I thought maybe they were coil taps also, but I couldn't discern any difference in the sound as I was switching them around. I love that black sparkle finish.

I have decided I have to get an X-79 with 'buckers in black sparkle. It's now on my priority list.
