Ok , look at me posting again . Lol
What I’d like to know is do the older F30’s like a 70’s models I been interested in the jr jumbo type with the bud hips . Lol
How would you describe their tone ? Do they have good sustain and overtones ? Or just a more dead type of tone compared to the more modern builds ?

I love the comfort of a 000 (traditional F30 body style), but I think a 16" mini-jumbo is the best all around body style. My experience with the wider (15.5") , deeper 70s F30s is that they are a nice compromise between a 000 and a 0000.

I played one months back at my local Sam Ash and it was one of the betters sound guitars I've played. It definitely came off more like mahogany B/S mini-jumbo than a 000. It wasn't dread boomy, but it carried its own, and it sounded swell finger picked.

But you know how it goes . . . some guitars are always better than others.

A couple of months back I played a ton of Martins and Taylors, as well as a couple of newer Guilds, and other than a D28 and an HD28, none of them sounded better than my Simon & Patrick Songsmith Folk, with laminated cherry back and sides. A guitar I picked up used for $180. I'd been aiming for a Martin 000-17 Whiskey Sunset, which was $1400 used. I thought it would be an upgrade. But it was no contest. The 000-17, my cheap S&P blew it away.

That 70s F30 was similar, it sounded better than anything I played in that Sam Ash store that day. $2500 Gibsons, you name it.

Just for clarity, in case I didn't understand your question, I'm only speaking to the 70s-ish F30s, not the earlier, or later models that are closer to your Guild Co-2 in width and depth.

I didn't play it for a super long time, but recall the sustain being great. Sustain is kind what I'm after. I don't recall enough to comment on the overtones, etc. I think the neck had been reset, so it was really comfortable to play and it just sound so balanced and present. If I'd had the money, I would've bought it on the spot.

Fittingly, it's the second time I've been at that same store and run into a Guild I wish I had the cash for. Maybe 14 years ago I ran into a DV6 cedar there that was one of the better sounding dreads I've heard.

Online with no returns scares me as well. I've spent a lot of time on Reverb as of late, blowing up photos to look at how much saddle is left, etc. So I can totally relate.
