Greetings to all. Long time lurker here and have searched the threads and can't find exactly what I am looking for. I want to build a replica Thunderbird but will probably be with a bolt-on neck as that is what I am most comfortable building. Rather than buying a used or new reissue guitar as a pattern, I am hoping someone has a body template for sale or would be willing to do a full size tracing of either an original or a RI. I would gladly compensate someone for their time. I found a post in another forum that gives dimensions but since this body shape is rather unique, I would really like to get a full size drawing. Any info or help appreciated. I am the proud owner of four (4) Guild guitars currently but no solids so I want to create one. Previously I have built several Strats and Jazzmasters,

Hi @bluesbill, welcome! Can't help you on this one, but I'm sure you'll find what you need. I would love to watch your progress on this interesting project once you're started (y)

How did you build the Strats and Jazzmasters you mentioned? With a kit? or did you build the body yourself?

I own a selfmade (not by me) mini Jazzmaster, you can see a picture of it when you click the link in my signature. The guy who built it crafted the body himself, then had it professionally laquered and completed it with parts he took from other guitars. It's a fun little instrument, and I would love to build a guitar myself one day!

Welcome.

CMG borrowed this instrument from @The Guilds of Grot and reverse engineered it to make the reissue. Maybe he has something of interest to you?

I usually just take a chunk of wood and cut away everything that isn't a guitar. LOL. I bought cheap templates for the other bodies then made better working templates from those. I make my own templates for other woodworking projects, so if I can just get hands on an outline I can eye-ball the relief cuts and such. BB

I did see that thread yes and read it, Thank you. It appeared that he made use of a photograph and graph blocks (we learned that in 9th grade mechanical drawing class, still comes in handy) to reproduce the body shape, seems to have worked well but an outline would be easier and likely more exact. I may just take my crayola and poster paper to GitCenter and make a nuisance of myself. BB
