D-35 it is!

So, yeah, JA, that guitar has a bit of cosmetic damage and overspray on the soundboard, as noted, but all other things being in good shape would make that a great axe to have and cherish... As for the tuning machines, I don't know if it was the Grover Rotomatics (probably in nickel or chrome, not gold) or the Schallers from that period. Either way, if needed I suggest you put some modern 18:1 tuners on there and have at it.

Wonderful. Congrats!

Rosette almost matches my '69 D35 but not quite.

My 70 D 35 is exactly like your 69. Also there was a thread recently about D 40 headstock logos, and from that discussion, they said D 40s had the silkscreen logo for a while.

^wow. I didn't even know there were Gotoh tuners that long ago. Anyway, there you go!

In any case, I'm not a huge fan of the way those tuner buttons look. I'd probably go for something different in that case.

Sorry if already mentioned, but in addition to the points already made, a D-40 from ‘75 would have white body binding - not black. As noted above, this is a D-35. Edit: Just saw that GardMan already discussed the binding!

Hello again, all. I went to install some new Grover 102nk tuners and I found the factory drilled holes on the 1975 D35 too big for the grover fittings. When I tried to fit the Grovers through the factory fittings the stem circumference was true at first but it broadens a bit closer to the gear housing. That bit forces the factory fittings out, leaving a 2-4 mm gap between the fitting and the actual headstock. I need some advice on finding the right machines. I sti have 4 of the original Japanese Gotohs in good shape, so if anyone has 2-6 of them for sale I'd consider that.
