Have a friend that has had a GF 60R and he is thinking of selling it. He sent me a couple pictures and told me the neck binding was loose. Pictures were poor quality but from about 6th -- 12th fret, on treble side, very loose. Makes me wonder about entire neck. The rest of the guitar looks excellent. Played, maybe, half dozen times the last 18 years.
Is replacing neck binding an expensive fix? A fair price is just a guess since I have not and will not be able to play or see it in person.
I have bought a couple Guilds from him before and they were excellent

IIRC, I paid under $100 to have the binding reglued on the neck of my DV-72 at the shop where we held our weekly jam (pre-covid).

It's not at all unusual for binding to come loose. Plastic tends to shrink over time and that can cause it to pull away from the wood. This is why the boutique guitar makers use wooden bindings.

Depending on your skills, you may be able to glue it yourself. (The gluing is easy -- it's cleaning off the old glue that can take a little time.)

Stewart-MacDonald has a glue especially made for adhering plastic binding to wood.

(GF60R -- highly recommended!)

Thanks Glenn and such enablers we have on this forum. May be months before I can, actually, see it but that will give me time to get him to commit to a price.

I just bought a 1989 GF60-R a few weeks ago. Fabulous guitar, you'll love it.

Mine was missing a piece of binding from the right side of the headstock. I had other work done, but I believe the binding replacement was about $150. Keep in mind it required fabricating a new piece of binding.

Thanks Soul Train. Looks like $100-$150. If he ever decides on a price and I take the "Nestea Plunge," I will contact a luthier friend of mine for further inspection. The SN of this one is GF 600082. Is that a late 1987 or early 1988 or neither? Guild SNs throw lots of curve balls.
