Thanks that was very interesting. That D44 neck is exactly like the mahogany neck on my '72 G37, very slender and easy to play

The guitar repair people/luthiers who don't want to do neck resets on Guilds are lazy. All it takes is using a very sharp knife to cut through the lacquer that is around the neck joint, and after that it is a standard neck reset. Funny thing is, there are also Gibsons that have the lacquer sprayed on after the neck and body are joined, and many will do neck resets on the Gibsons. The knife must be very sharp to cut, but not chip, the lacquer around the neck joint. Those that won't do Guild neck resets are mostly reacting to the "reputation" that Guild neck resets always require touch ups, and if not done properly, they will. I have heard that there are some that will do a reset, but charge more. Much of this concern does go away if the luthier uses, like the one in this video did, the hot wire/foam cutter to break the glue bonds of the existing neck joint, but some are still using the older steam technique.
