I am hoping that still have Hans Moust's book. I don't know if it could help with the model type for my Guild which has serial number 12616 (1960). I have looked at almost every Guild picture on the web, and the format of mine does not match anything I can see, two metal pickups with three pots, two volume, one for tone. I have looked to get a copy of that book but find it is going for stupid money. Forgot to mention that it is black and a Hollow body

Post a pic and we'll help you out. Otherwise Hans may be able to tell from his records based on the serial number alone.

Hello Les,

Welcome! From what I can see in the photo I believe you have what started as a Guild T-100. Pickups, bridge and controls were changed and from where I am I can't say anything about the originality of the finish. If there are any remains of a label when you look through the bass-side f-hole it may give you a little more info.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

I will another look but couldn't find one I last looked. It could have floated off over time if there was one. The paint job and fitment of pickups and controls seems too perfect to be anything than a factory fit, but you never know.

Hans knows. It may have been done by a luthier, but not factory.

They look like they might be 1970s Japanese Maxon humbuckers with the totally flat-topped pole screws. Did they varnish over the fretboard when they refinished it? Looks kind of reflective, like a Ric in your pic. Cool guitar! Would enjoy seeing some more pics. If it was mine, I'd be pretty tempted to swap a 3-way for one of the pots and just go master vol/tone.

Clearly an aftermarket refinish, as you can see the black paint was sprayed without even closing the f-holes, so the inside is black now.
Bridge and pickups are not Guild so that was not done by the factory in later years either. Knobs are aftermarket as well. The tailpiece and the truss rod cover seems to be original. Nevertheless a cool guitar!

The mustache headstock suggests late 50's or very early 60's. It has three knobs. What guild with that body style left the factory with three knobs during that period? None that I can think of. That leaves me thinking that it started life as a T100 with a single pickup and two knobs. That's what Hans already said, but I'm just trying to add a little reasoning behind it.

I checked for a label again but to no avail. I suspect you guys are correct that this came from the factory as a T100 and was manhandled in its first 10 years of its life before I got hold of her. Many thanks for you guys coming to help
