California Desert tortoise, a scattering of Russians, one Herman's , another young Desert tortoise, and yes..a Sulcata. All 87 lbs of him and still growing. We've had the sucker since he fit in the palm of my wife's hand and he still doesn't like being touched. Sometimes, I need to move him and those front and back legs will scrape the skin off your fingers if you grab him by the leg openings. The front ones are really coarse!

My wife put her shoe on him for scale.
If you notice where the grass is poking out of his mouth, you see his beak is notched. He did that this year. We don't know what he tried to bite, but it broke the center point out and left him with a gap. Tortoises are not known for big brains. He is known for being determined and not knowing how big he is. On occasion he will be plodding along, on the patio and taking a folding chair with him. His shell doesn;t fit under the chair brace, but that doesn't seem to slow him down.

Carefully? As I mentioned, I can't just grab him by his scoots ( where the legs come out. ) without stout gloves anymore. I have to just grab by his sides and and move in short bursts. Sometimes we coax him with food instead. That isn't a quick process.

I have three Tortoises and a Chinese Box Turtle. I've had the box turtle for over 40 years.
