Looking is fine. Touching is OK. Purchasing and riding a motorcycle at an advanced age is not a wise move. Too many crazy drivers out there. Too many chances to wipe out and maim or kill yourself. Perhaps end your enjoyment of guitar playing. Permanently.

It's all about priorities, buddy. Think about that. Your family wants you alive, in one piece. Your guitars do too.

I won't do anything that could damage my arms, legs and hands. Playing music is one of the biggest priorities I have.

Use the money to buy an amazing guitar. Like a Guild D-50. For me, it would be a G-37.

OK, I'm looking at a Harley, a smaller one, 1985 1000 Sportster with only 5000 miles.

Put something exciting between your legs! ;]

The Sportster may not have enough get up and go to evade modern day SUVs, this is a viable alternative, a Boss Hog, 502 Cubic Inch Chevy V8 powered, can really get you out of trouble when you need it, as well as 10 second 1/4 miles on the way to the beer store ;]

Ha! My big friend has a Boss Hoss that he completely rebuilt, it's an awesome bike!

But even if I could ride that one, if I tipped it over I would need a forklift to get it back up!

You're right Bob, I'm just fantasizing about the Harley. But if I talk about it enough, maybe Mrs. Dread would concede to me buying another Guild!

Excellent strategy Dread - reminds me of the high school junior who went home and said, "mom, you know Frank the boy I told you that had a crush on me and you and dad told me I could date him and then he asked me to go steady and y'all weren't real sure that was a good idea and we didn't - but y'all liked him didn't you? Well, I think I may be Pregnant." After about an hour of parents going from freaking out to parents being supportive, they all say down at the table for a "quiet" meal. As the daughter got up from the table, she paused and said, "All that about Frank I just made up but I did get a "D" in Chemistry." Priorities can change.
My wife would probably say, "your life insurance is paid up - be careful."

Dred, is that a 250 "Sprint?" Last time I got to ride one of those was probably 1970, what a gas :)

Nope OK, answer my own question, the Sprint wasn't a vertical cylinder head :(

I pine for a Triumph Bonneville from my days of yore, a 650...and I actually found one at a dealer
soon to be out of business, gorgeous "blood and custard," but even at his really good price there
was no way I am going 5 figures for a murder-cycle (as we used to call them at the fire station.)

And after considerable, considerable inner thought, decided that motorcycles were something
from my past that I should look back on and just smile from the good memories.

Of course, if a Norton Commando showed up across the street, I might loose all self control...o_O

No, it's a 1000 Sportster, 1985.

But I sure do regret selling my Dad's 250 Sprint after he died in '78. That goes into the "What was I thinking" category.

"Not just your family, but the LTG family would prefer it that you be alive, fully functioning and able to post."

Hard to believe as often as my posts get flagged or removed. Some people don't find my attempts at humor to be very funny.

I love riding but really haven't much since I had kids. I've chomping at the bit to ride again so much lately that I look at them daily. I've actually even considered selling off a couple of Guilds to grab a nice adventure bike. 😔

That Sportster's one of the last years for the Ironhead and at least post-AMF. Whew! If there's one thing, though that would make me get a newer bike, it's fuel injection. Cleaning carbs is a drag!

Oh là là!!! I 'm thinking of selling my humble 1993 Honda 125 cm,not really a dream-bike,but a fun, cheap, reliable machine...Kinda ugly, if you want...Not glamorous, certainly...Won't get stolen ...... Reasons ?-same as stated above-: 1/I'm not getting younger, nor stronger. 2/ I only use it when the weather is OK, I ride about 200 kms a year, not really useful -3/ The Cell-phone drivers give me the creeps and spoil the fun.. 4/ I might use the money to buy something nice for my girl (And a Bluesbird!) So, away goes my Midnight Rider Imaginary Self, too bad! (Oh,and a flat-twin Bmw or a Guzzi -V are such beauties!!! Anybody remembers the Laverda Sf 750???)

One of those AMC made Harley Roadsters was my first bike. It was a POS. Then I traded it in on a Triumph Sprint RS. Got in two accidents with it. One was a left turning driver that wasn’t paying attention.

The last accident I got rear ended at a Red light by a 1 ton ford that was going 55 and blew through the traffic signal, launching me into the intersection and accordioned the back of my bike, all the way to my ass on the seat. I had bruises that mirrored the grill of the truck and the oval Ford emblem.

I gave up riding that after that.

My friend Tom from whom I bought my first Studebaker had been a Hell's Angel. Around the early '90s he told me he rode his bike up to L.A. and after that he decided he was going to stick to driving Studebakers. "I'm too #@^**!!! old do do that #*@! anymore! Those drivers up there are out of their minds!".
On the other hand, around that time he asked me and Chuck if he got a bunch of his biker friends to form a caravan, would we ride on Whizzers to Gila Bend, Arizona ( he lived in Campo, extreme southeast San Diego County). The image of that was so absurd that Chuck and I agreed on the spot, even
realizing how uncomfortable and bone jarring such a trip would be. It unfortunately fell through at the last minute as his biker friends had more sense than
we did--or perhaps Tom was merely testing us to see how gullible we were. He did own about a half dozen Whizzers at the time...

I’ve been riding since I was 17. (That’s a very long time now.) I’ll be riding until…we’ll, uh,…I’m older than I am now.
it’s almost as much a part of who I am as playing Guild guitars. Almost.
