I grow fresh herbs on the deck right off my kitchen. I buy most of my produce especially in season; I hope to be doing a bunch of canning this year including salsa.
I'll get all the stuff for that at the farmer's market.

I just harvested a buttload of basil from the deck, it's in the dehydrator now. It will season many meals to come. This year, I'm growing these basils: Lime, Lemon, Sweet, Purple, Purple Ruffles, and they are all growing like gangbusters in the last two weeks of 90+ degree humid weather, and a lot of water.

I'm also growing Chocolate Mint, and I left my Thyme plants in the pots through the winter, they came back nicely this summer, English Thyme and Lemon Thyme, great for seasoning meats.

Oh, and fresh rosemary for the buttered potatoes!

That's what I grow - just not so many varieties. A lot of our basil goes into pesto.

Add pot or two of oregano to that - its great in the quick pastas we do in the summer with fresh tomatoes. This week I'm going to snip my first bunch of oregano to tie together and hang in the shed to dry. Once dry you gently roll the bunch between you hands over your favorite tomato gravy (yeah, in Philly it's gravy) to season.

It can also sometimes overwinter in the ground, at least down here in our zone 7a.

Sounds great dread. We grow basil and zucchini in pots on our upper deck. Really can’t have a garden because here in coastal Massachusetts there are too many deer

Dread you ought to open a restaurant and call it, "DAD" - Dining At Dreads. Live music on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.
All these recipes you know ought to be experienced by locals and surrounding communities.

Thanks, Stu - maybe if I were younger.

Maybe I'll publish a cookbook instead...

Nice! I cook (a lot!) and there's nothing like having fresh herbs.
