Hello, Gang.

My first post here. I have a Guild currently on layaway at the local shop. Counting the hours until I can bring her home! (It's gonna be more like 6 weeks, tho  ) She is a 1959 CE-100 and appears to be all original and in fine shape for a 48 year old!

She has the two Franz pup's, so she would be correctly referred to as a CE-100dp, correct? Was Guild making this same model w/one pup in 1959?

I have also seen some folks mention a "Ghost Label". What is meant by that?

I'll post some pictures next month. *sigh*

Thanks!!

Well, howdy, Zachary! Welcome aboard!

I can try to answer your question about the CE-100. Pages 59 and 73 of The Guild Guitar Book, by Hans Moust (who happens to be a member on this forum and is the preeminent Guildologist) describes the CE-100 debuting in 1956. Double pickups became available in 1959, on a model called the CE-100D and yes, "on some lables the model designation would be CE-100DP". Single pickup version still seems to have been available.

The "Ghost Label" you hear about is the little cartoon-like figure of a guy playing a guitar on early Guild labels. He's a very plain character and he looks a lot like one of Casper the Friendly Ghost's uncles. Hence, "the Ghost Label". Someone here was using it as his avatar for a while. Anyone remember who? jp?

Glad to have you with us.
Post well. Post often.

Hey Zachary
Congratulations! Wow a '59 with Franz PUs, very nice and rather sought after by the rockabilly guitar slingers. I had a single PU '64 CE-100 that I really loved.

BTW I think the ghost label was only available for a couple years--'59-60 if I recall. Don't have Hans' book in front of me at the moment. It's usually under my pillow.

Welcome to LTG and looking forward to pics.

Thanks for the info, gents! She does have the ghost label, but there is not model number designated anywhere on her. The guy who owns the shop told me about the model number.

I'm very glad this forum exists and have been getting alot of pleasure out of going throught he archives.

best,
Zachary
