I'm pretty sure this is a big leaf maple, don't often see this stuff advertised as Music Wood.

Regardless, pics looks like this old log contains some nicely figured lumber. I'm guessing it weighs 3000 lbs or more

My neighbor around the corner had one about this size cut down due to storm damage & left the bottom 20 ft in one piece, word is he got $500+ from a mill for the one log. Fella did me a good turn & gave me some nice knots & burls for nothing.

From the pics, it looks like there's some very nice quilted maple in that log! Droooool! Pity I'm so far away, I'd love to get that milled.

Great to see folks more aware of the wood, it's value, and uses for it. I'd imagine not so long ago (Well, probably even now) all it would have been used for was firewood.
If that goes to the right place, it can be milled into something beautiful someday.
Nice to see our guitar woods in their natural state.
Thanks Jeff.

The wood makes for visually stunning guitars, for sure. I would *love* to get ahold of a log that size. :)

The new Doyle Dykes Signature Model has Big Leaf Maple backs and sides.
