If you see this warning using Microsoft Edge, it's a false positive:

For whatever wacky reason, this only appears if you type in the root URL like this: https://letstalkguild.com. If you've bookmarked the forum itself, then this doesn't appear: https://letstalkguild.com/ltg/. Why? Because Microsoft.

Why is it a false positive? I encourage you to see for yourself: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/domain/letstalkguild.com/detection

I've reported it, so we'll see if they do anything about it.

If you're using Edge and get this warning, click "More information" and you'll have the option to continue to LTG

They're kinda the same, but Edge is faster. And I try to avoid Google as much as possible. But that's probably kinda futile in the long run bwah

I was an early adopter of the Chromium-based Edge when it was BETA. I was not impressed. How hard is it to develop a Chromium-based browser? I mean like it's all open source.

If you don't like Google Chrome, which is probably the best for anything DRM related, there are alternatives in the Chromium fork family:
  • Opera - used to be Norwegian - sold out to Chinese interests. Used to be my fav but I don't use it anymore. Have uninstalled it everywhere because of security paranoia.
  • Brave - do some reading before trying it out.
  • Vivaldi - an Icelandic browser, I think - Icelanders had a fight at Opera in Oslo and took their marbles and went home if I remember correctly - it's my current fav.
  • And Chromium - Linux only.
Pretty much all the extensions for Google Chrome (the ones that I have tried anyway) work perfectly in any of the above alternatives.

Then of course, there is the venerable old Firefox.

I was a fan of Opera but Brave really impressed me. Firefox was my go-to for years and years until it became too glitchy and I dumped it. The newest iteration of Firefox is much better, but I switched to Edge just because it is hands down *the fastest* browser. Brave is my choice for VPN/torrenting etc. Very good for security and whatnot.

Thanks GAD for the explanation. I haven't been around for a long time, but tried to log in twice recently and got the "Not Safe" warning. Got in through a back door and went looking for information on it. And I found it. God, I love this place!

What does “got in through a back door” mean?

I get a similar warning on Chrome when I click the link to our public library in their weekly email update, Type the same URL directly, no warning. So Edge and Chrome may be using similar software monitoring,.

That's a very highly technical computer term meaning "I don't really know what happened, but I did it".

Actually, I think I clicked on the "Let's Talk Guild" link in my favorites and go the warning. The first time I got it I backed out and went away. Then today I tried it and got the same thing, so I went to Google and entered "Let's Talk Guild" and used the link that it gave me. Then when I read the thread on the warning I changed my link and now I'm as happy as if I had put new strings on.

While we're on the subject - I said earlier I haven't been around in a long time, but when I was coming around I had achieved the rank of "Senior Member". Now I see I'm bumped back to plain "Member". What did I do wrong to get demoted.

You didn’t do anything wrong. A Senior member used to be anyone with more than 10 posts and I thought that was dumb so I changed it.
