Funny! After years of just using whatever medium-to-heavy plastic "whatever" pics, I just today ordered the Primetone pics which should be here tomorrow. I just cant quite pull the trigger for a 35.00 Blue Chip...yet! Baby steps.
Oh nice! I'll be interested to know what you think. I really like them.

Oh I am...or, er was a sucker for picks. @Default accidentally "gifted" me a Blue Chip and I thought it pretty good, at least the sound others expected to hear...then I found a Dunlop Ultex on a sidewalk at Kaufman Kamp and damn if it didn't sound just like the BC! Better yet, I then found (the next week) that my instructor Beppe Gambetta been using them for some time :)

My only "trouble" now is deciding on whether to use the .88 or 1.0 thickness, and I guess it really depends on the guitar and strings. Find the .73 sounds too brittle, too much treble.

So there ya go, another one to try out ;)

I have a couple of Blue Chips, and I also use Primetones. I like the BCs the best, but the Primetones are close enough. They sound a little more bright than the BC, with a little more pick-on-string noise. The feel is about the same. I don't have too much of a problem losing picks, so the BCs have been worth it to me. If I were to lose them, I'm not sure in buy another one when the Dunlops are a much better value

In the '60s I got hooked on the thin Mosrite picks..... Heck, they feel good and they NEVER break ! The one in the strings of my Guild is from that time...... Really.... I have 3 more NOS as spares that I'm sure I'll never get to.

Slight veer from the string topic but I still have 2 sets of the mid '90's Guild L350 sets that have an .025 instead of an .024 G, (otherwise they're D'Addario EJ-16's), in the case of my '96 D25.

Dunlop nylon in 73, but primarily 60, sometimes 44, but earlier comments about thinner picks creating more treble suddenly ring true. So to speak. :D

Might have to break out one of those 73's again.

I guess it all depends on your style and what part you play in a group.

We have an acoustic guitar strummer who uses a thin Delrin pick, and mandolin player who thrashes with a thin Delrin pick and does some strummy leads, and my wife who is very good at appegiating on guitar and 6 string banjo with a 1.0mm pick.

that leaves me and the bass player to put some kind of rhythm to the sound and we do.

He rocks a good 1-5 and does walks and accents. I play lead and a chop/syncopated style with a very heavy pick for clarity.

Those little thin rubbery picks always have irked me because the tone they produce IMO, is weak and unflattering to the instrument. Couple that with a cheap instrument, dead strings, etc and it is just mush.

Using heavier, stiffer picks has made me a much better player. More, tone, control and clarity.

I usually hear as much pick noise as string and they don't last long either. I'll usually go with .73mm picks for a couple of songs where I want that particular tone, but the majority of the time I'm in the 1.-1.4mm range and sometimes heavier.

I've stuck with .60s (and .58s) for probably the last 15 years. These days I hover between Everly Star Picks and D'Addario Duragrips, probably 75/25 in favor of the Star picks. I also just us my bare thumb a lot.
