So, tonight I watched one hour of the Black Crowes. That's a band I always liked but had little of their material and didn't listen to them often. Great stuff though. They were entertaining and I enjoyed it.

The 2nd hour was Lynryd Skynyrd and I've always been a huge fan. They did all their old hits and favorites and of course wrapped up with Free Bird. Man, those 3 guitarists really had it goin' on. Especially the freaky one that plays the Gibson Firebird (I think that's what it was). He looks like a crazy kinda guy. Wish I could have talked to him at some point.

Both those groups were highly Gibson on guitar gear along with a Fender of some sort (strat maybe???)

Anyway, they'll likely rerun those at some point. Check 'em out if you get the chance.

I remember a Black Crowes concert from the days of Palladia. I wish I could find copies of all those Palladia concerts, because a lot of them were really great.

I always loved Skynyrd. There's a youtube vid of a filmed concert from the late '70s I believe, and while they sounded great, man did they have ZERO stage presence! I was kind of shocked.

Hey Richard,

If you like the Black Crowes, maybe you should check out this video that was shot 50 years (yes fifty!) ago :

It gives you an idea who the Black Crowes were heavily influenced by. The singer, Terry Reid, has an interesting history and there's plenty of stuff about him on the internet. One of the great voices in British rock that didn't get the attention that other ones did! Also notice David Lindley on lap steel, who at the time inspired me to pick up the lap steel as well.

Sincerely,

Hey Hans,
Where was that festival held? I thought I saw a WEM monitor so I'm thinking somewhere in the UK. The "older" ladies also makes me think UK but what looks like a Harley throws me off.
Great video! That drummer knew how to roll a "fat one". That is a good summary of the flower power period of festivals!

Ed King was a Stray player, Sweet Home Alabama is a Strat. Later on Steve Gaines was the Strat player. He died in the plane crash.
Alan Collins was the Firebird guy. He was hurt badly in a motorcycle crash a few years after the plane crash. He never returned.
