According to my friend's daughter, last week, Taylor Swift played a banjo at her concert at Gillette Stadium. A sign of the apocalypse?

I'd sit through a lotta banjo playin' to hear a good bagpipe solo.
But hey, if they were good 'nough for Jimi they're' good enough for me:

I know we all like to joke, and it's fun. But I'll be the first to admit that I love banjos and I really like Taylor Swift too. So THERE!! I've SAID it and I'm GLAD!! :smiley_simmons:

Hey, I love 'em too! Nothing out there quite like that sound. Very evocative if played well. I also like banjo jokes.
I broke down a few years ago and bought the 6 string Banjo ( Like Ms. Swift is playing there) and whilst not the pure Banjo sound, it allowed me to easily pick it up and play freely. Those things are a lot of fun too. :victorious:

Jimi would have loved Photoshop!

Speaking of 6 string banjos, Keith Urban plays a 6 string, but his albums list it as a "ganjo"!

Funny you should mention that. It sure is some excellent work if it is a "Photoshop job". All the shadows seem to line up correctly for one thing (usually a dead giveaway), yet the details remain crisp where they might have been blended a bit to obscure obvious "cut and paste" lines. Only something slightly "funny" about the hat, and I could swear I've seen the original pic it would've been lifted from.... that little move he's making is pretty unique, even for him. (think he's actually using a slide over the pickups while he's got the whammy bar tucked in his palm)
So I really am wondering, although I suspect it is a photoshop job.
And yeah, what're the odds of seeing Jimi in a John Deere hat?

My aunt actually has one of those dating back to the 30's at least but unfortunately the tuning machines aren't up to modern string tensions. She always called it a "gitanjo". She's had it since the '60s.

From Wikipedia: "The banjo guitar, is known by many names: guitar banjo, guitjo, banjar, banjitar, bantar or ganjo . It is a six-string banjo with the neck of a guitar. It is tuned like a guitar and can be played by guitarists who desire the sound of a banjo."
Well, the manufacturer at least does not call it like this! http://www.deeringbanjos.com/boston-6-string

+1! How many banjos has she helped sell? You can't argue with what her music machine is producing. Her tour last year alone grossed more than 35 million. Banjos are more in the public eye today than anytime since the 60's. I have read that Deering is back ordered almost a year.

In color, the photoshop reeks. But in B+W it almost looks real ( If not for the content).
Yes, Good too see and hear more of the Banjo these days. I'm enjoying how young folks are incorperating it into some new sounds and grooves too. Very nice.
and yes, The Banjitar, or Guitjo, or Guitanjo ( I like that one best!).....It's sure fun to play. Very loud, Quick sound decay, nothing complex, but Fun to drive.
I sure like mine!

Adorshki, here's a link to a Google search fro "jimi hendix banjo". There are more "photos" of him playing one!
W-o-o-ahhh!!!
Thanks buddy!
SO, do you think that's what he meant when he said "You will never hear surf music again" ?
Most recently I thought that tune was maybe influenced by these guys.
And a couple years back I stumbled across this connection too...
Coincidence?
Only Albert Hofmann knows for sure.

Did you happen to home in on this link:
http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?/topic/22266-cool-pics-of-a-cool-dude-jimi/page-3
More rare cool photos a few of which I've never seen before.
On a jazz lovers forum yet...
And now we return to our regularly scheduled thread on the rather dodgy subject of are there or are there not banjos, or if Bela Fleck is actually an alien.

Many of those organissimo photos were missing, but plenty were there - that's a cool thread! "Cool" definitely defines Hendrix...

And a different woman with him in every photo!

He woulda been a great celebrity endorser for Lay's potato chips, huh? "Betcha can't...." you know.
I mean hey, if he could play a banjo with a straight face....
And now, back to "Bela Fleck: BANJO GOD"
BTW, have I mentioned before how much I love his documentary "Throw Down Your Heart"?
I have?
Well it never hurts to mention it again, for those who may just now seeing his name.
Kinda like Yoko, they both deserve a little bump every once in awhile.
:distracted:
