It's almost like they got a batch of 5k pups and went back to the 6-7k pups.

Be careful with the last entries because they have no year. They were sold as "1960s" or similar so can't be tied down.

From what I can see it looks like some early '70s M75s may have had AnitHums until they were moved completely to HB1s.

I find it odd that I've not yet found any 1969 Starfires, but that doesn't mean much given the sample size and the fact that I'm trying to get very specific information which is not often included with guitar sales.

I also find it fascinating that, given the apparent rarity of the ~5k variations, that Guild would have managed to randomly grab one for their sample. It also makes me wonder if this is the set they bought (Sept 2012):

https://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-60...E-FIND-SOUND-GREAT-STARFIRE-ETC-/170915607885

This is the description from that sale (emphasis mine):

This will be a good deal for someone.Priced more than fairly for these little gems.I pulled these out of an old '59 Harmony Stratotone someone had modified with these pickups sometime in the 60's. I restored the guitar many years ago and just stumbled on these in a box in a closet.Forgot I had them. Anyway.....by the looks of them they are definitely from the mid to late sixties. The chrome covers are in very good condition for their age with almost no visible signs of scratches or dents. The first pickup with the GUILD stamp on the back and solder terminal posts reads 5.17 K ohms on my multimeter. The second pickup has no GUILD stamp and no solder post-just the 2 wires for hookup. This pickup reads 6.67 K ohms on my meter. This second pickup also has a strap across the back that becomes the tabs on each end for the spring mounting.Looks to be original factory manufactured.Same mounting dimensions and tab positioning as the other pickup -just a different design. This one might be the earlier model of the two.I spoke with someone who worked at Guild in the sixties and he said that there were a variety of small differences with these pickups between manufacturing runs/years and the ohm tolerances varied widely as well.I am also including 1 (one) bezel for pickup mounting. This is all I have and no springs or screws or a second bezel are included. These pickups do have a following of sorts as they have a much more welcome sound than the later mini's from the 70's.I don't take returns on these type of electronics so be sure this is what you need or are looking for. These pickups function as they should and I will insure the USPS Priority mail package for full value in the event that the package is harmed or destroyed in transit.Immediate payment required via Paypal at end of auction or after you hit the buy it now button. No international bidders.

That looks to me to be a mismatched set that someone pulled from a guitar that someone else modded with parts from who-knows-where.

The mind boggles. With aimless speculation. :emmersed:

Were the anti hum coils wound by Diamond Coil? Whoever it was, maybe they ran out of 42 gauge for a week or two and just substituted the closest gauge wire they had on hand. :)

So I changed strings on my Bluesbird last night, but decided not to pop the pickup surrounds & check out the back covers. This would also involve removing the pickguard. The guard screw threads are pretty worn & corroded and the spongy pads underneath the guard are looking crumbly & feeling brittle. So I think I'll get some replacement screws & pads and have 'em on-hand before I mess with anything.

I've updated my blog post with about five more pickup samples: http://www.gad.net/Blog/2018/03/09/guild-anti-hum-lb1-mini-humbucker-pickups/

Latest data:

In almost 70 samples collected, I've seen only one example of a ~7k/~5k paired as a set, which is from a very old eBay auction that I postulated is the one that Fender used to design the LB1s.

Ok, GAD. So it only took me a couple of years to finally remember to measure the resistance of my mini-hums in my '68 CE-100D.
Sorry 😣

The Guild website describes " LB-1 “Little Bucker” pickups, replicas of Guild’s original smaller size humbucking pickups". Are they essentially the same as the originals or just a copy? Is there some after market pickup that people prefer to upgrade to in place of the current LB-1?
