Two soft rags..I like the polishing rags you get at the auto parts store. Put a dab on one rag, polish, then wipe clean with other rag. Stuff works great.

I've have great success Meguair's with a "micro-fibre" cloth first to work out the scratches, then a softer (dead T-shirt) as a final which also serves to remove the last of the residue of the polish itself.

I just used Meguiars Scratch X on my '76 D-25 and it worked great. Despite having numerous surface marks, scratches, etc. my Guild never has looked better. After using the Scratch X, I then polished up the entire guitar with Gruhn Glaze. Really looks great! It didn't entirely remove the scratches, but they look a whole lot better than before.

As far as application, yeah two soft cotton rags will do the trick. I too used a cotton polish rag from Home Depot (used for furniture polishing) and then finished up with an old cotton tee.

Of course the Gruhn polish is an excellent product as well.

The icing was putting on new DR Rares PB .012s after cleaning/polishing my fretboard with Guitar Honey. Great, great tone and looks!

That's my first Gruhn guitar, a 1984 F46.

Here's a '56 X50. When I got the guitar, it was pretty dirty and has scratches all over it. I spend 3 or 4 hours on this with the Meguair's and a micro-fibre cloth, and it ended up like this. It seems to somehow (to me anyway) keep the patina of age and at the same time it just sparkles.

Do you ever use a buffing wheel? (Note to Coastie: This means you jack up your mobile's driving wheel, put the car in gear, and press your guitar to a cloth-covered wheel cover.)
