Years ago I had a Maverick Bass amp and assumed it was a Maverick without Reverb or Tremelo with a 15" speaker. I tried using it for guitar and ran it through other cab but wasn't happy with the results. I sold the amp.
Years later I compared the schematic of the Maverick vs Maverick Bass amp and noticed a slight difference in circuit. Unfortunately I don't remember the circuit difference and just tucked that bit of info away in my head. The Maverick guitar amp can get pretty bright. I recall the bass model couldn't get very bright

However like all amps and setups the tone is dependent upon the musicians preference. It wasn't for me. But then I don't often care for the Clapton "woman" tone setup either.

In one of the amp forums I am a member of, someone had one that they basically gutted, because they didn't like the tone for guitar.
It's a bass/organ amp and it's voiced for such.

@GAD would be the guy to ask, he has both. I only have the Mav guitar amp. u could play bass thru that, particulalry into a bass cab. that would sound incredible. never messed w the Mav bass amp either way.

I will say however guitar thru a Thunderbass-1 w 2x12 bass speakers is holy grail cleans for days. best i have ever heard from a tele- that's the amp I sold to @Vermonter . pretty sure he is a happy camper with that!

I don't recall ever having the opportunity to play through a Maverick before. Not sure how similar the design is to the Guild Thunderstar Bass head, but that was one of the best sounding bass amps I've ever played through and it did sound great with guitar as well (as long as I plugged it into a guitar appropriate cab). The Thunderbass amp also sounded great with both, though I didn't like it quite as much as the Thunderstar Bass

Hello

As of different components btw guitar and bass amps - I recall Fender silver-face era amps bein identical except for guitar amps having reverb and tremolo - but the tonestack had different capacitors that made the tone controls work at about one octave lower - one more difference was in input circuit. Guitar amps had BRIGHT switch that worked opposite to bass amps DARK switch.

It is sounding like too much work to turn it into a good guitar amp.
I found one cheap, but I’ll pass.
thanks for the help everyone!!

this information will be useful to others, I am sure

I had a Mav Bass amp. It sounded good, if not a little underpowered, for bass, but I didn't really like it for guitar.

My experience has been that guitar through a bass amp or bass through a guitar amp can become unsatisfactory once you decide you need the tone controls to change something. If you are thinking about this because of what the power and preamp stages do to sound or have cabinets to play with then it makes sense. But if you need the amp to shape the tone you might as well keep looking.

I was thinking of it simply because I came across one for very, very cheap.
I normally play out of either of two 1947 masco MA-17s, a 59 BMRI, a pro junior,a crate V-18 or quilters. Or a Gibson tube amp from about 61.
I guess I have at least a dozen tube amps and a quilter for backup.

BUT, one must keep shopping!

I appreciate everyone’s help!!
