My luthier friend highly recommends active pickups because he said these days there are too many variables to plug into a pre amp and have it sound like it should, the pickups and pre amps in an active system are matched to each other, so while it may work, it might not work as well as a matched set...for whats thats worth to you. :? My old D35 is fitted with a Martin Thinline Gold Plus acoustic pickup through the jack pin - it was actually developed by Fishman.

this is the spiel on the bottom of the box it came in:

On the rare occassions I play plugged in it just goes into a preamp and seems to sound OK.

Your pickup is a Fishman pickup. I've used the comparable Fishman models for years through (at different times) Fishman Pro-EQ, Pro-EQ Platinum, Magicstomp, Sans-Amp, and/or Crate CA125D amp. I've never had any issues. At one point my setup involved the pickup, Pro-Eq Platinum, the Magicstomp and the amp, and there were no issues there either.

Hello there!

Now, I happen to have some info on this as I have been researching what exactly the system is in my new GAD-30PCE.

The Martin Gold Line pickup is a Fishman Matrix Natural 1; the Gold Line Plus is the Natural II.

On the Fishman site, under support I believe, you can find a question listing that shows modifications and so on. The answer about an external preamp may be there for you.

Good luck.
