A Midnight Sun 'burst.

Over here in summertime that would mean a very very blond guitar - like some scandinavian musicians . . . and non-musicians, too . . .

thanks for the education JP, sure looks that way. the seller would benefit greatly by including that info in the listing!
Still, it just looks wrong. the Gibsons in JP's link look much more authentic
I think it looks wrong because the finish is on a classic Martin dreadnought size and shape. It might be more suitable on a smaller bodied 00, 000, slope shoulder, or an f-hole archtop.

That's just awful IMO, but there's no accounting for taste I guess.

Wow, universal hate! I don't like it either, but I'm surprised no one likes it. I suppose if it were blue, Tomas would like it! :)

Honestly, I think jp is right that this would look better on a small body.

Black and blue burst seems more appropriate...

I do love the white herringbone against the black!! My blue Breedlove has white herringbone against the very subtle blue burst. That makes me smile!!

^ That *is* exquisite, Tom.
You should hear it!! Beautiful Sitka top and myrtlewood back and sides, rock maple neck, ebony fret and bridge with a lovely ebony faceplate on the headstock with ebony tuning buttons!! This guitar isn't going anywhere soon.....

Breedlove headstock.jpg

p.s. - thanks my friend. I think it's a really special guitar. I knew it on the first chord strum!! ANYAND, it's blue..... the myrtlewood is way bluer than the top but that's kinda pretty. That sounds like bad country song lyrics, "Myrtlewood does blue, better than Sitka..... " which is an actual place in Alaska, hence the tree name.... I'll shut up now..... LMAO!!

You should hear it!!

That looks like a beaut Tom, and the herringbone is classy! Since we're talking about finishes and I know you like blue, have you seen the very affordable Art & Lutherie Legacy Q-Discrete Guitars in gloss Indigo Blue and satin Denim Blue? I think they're also available in a parlor model.

Then again, there's Taylor's Taylor

DZn1iq3XcAAovzq.jpg

Being a big fan of oriental art fish motifs I know I'd try very very hard to like that guitar even if it is a dreadnought and even if I didn't like how it felt right off.
Please tell me it's not a 1-3/4 nut.
On the other hand if money was no object I'd swap the nut and saddle and anything else non-invasive if I thought it would help.
Never mind, I'll just ask Oxnard if they can do that when they get around to accepting special orders for my pipe dream GA body.

Well, see? I was tired of all the negativity towards that awful burst and decided to turn it to something positive and what's more fun and positive than a nice BLUE guitar??? All nice examples. Sal, that satin denim blue is something else!! I could do without the pickguard, but they're both lovely guitars. I'm gonna have to look them up!!

As I said, the Myrtlewood sides and back on mine are a bit more blue than the spruce top. Looks like this:

That Art & Lutherie satin denim blue reviews fairly well, too. All Canadian made and at around the $500 price mark, seems like a pretty good deal. Solid top, laminated back and sides. Here's a review:

If I recall, the aquarium model that Taylor Swift is playing above was a limited run and not a signature series guitar. Been a long time, though, since I was into Taylor guitars, so I may have that all wrong. In any case, the woodwork, especially on and off the fretboard is amazing, as were all those Taylors that I remember from then. Particularly the Liberty Tree guitar, which was a fabulous piece of artwork.

Nice review Tom, and I agree about the pearl white pickguard on denim blue: looks ok, just not my cup of tea. Willie's here in St Paul had the gloss indigo without a pickguard at all and that looked sweet. I bought my daughter their Legacy model in a tobacco finish and honestly it compares favorably to (but could never match) my '59 OOO Martin: very similar measurements too. Art & Lutherie, nice little guitars.
