Our regrets on the passing of Mark Simcha Dronge, age 83, of Tenafly, New Jersey who passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2022. Mark spent his early days working at Guild Guitars, the influential guitar making company started by his father Alfred Dronge. Mark recognized the influence of the folk boom and the Greenwich Village scene of the early 1960s and he became responsible for Artist Relations. He then started DR Strings in 1989. May his family be comforted by his wonderful legacy.

RIP Mark.

I enjoyed hearing his Guild days stories at LMG 4.
Me too, Marc.

I left a memory on behalf of the Guild community on the funeral director's obituary website.

By the way, as I recall, we all owe the existence of Guild dreadnoughts to Mark Dronge!!!
really? please elaborate at your leisure of course...He talked his dad into the shape?

Woody, I may have this wrong, and I'm not sure if we talked directly with Mark about this at LMGIV or I got it from other anecdotal discussions we've had here... I think it was Mark (not Al) who championed the dreadnought shape at Guild and brought them to light. If you look at the huge success of Guild's dreads... well, it's a near certainty that there would be no Guild today if that hadn't happened.
