As someone who's had both knees and both hips replaced, I feel your pain. Do your Physical Therapy religiously and you'll be better in no time. I'm finally actually getting around better than ever now that all the new parts are settling in. Sorry you had to go through this. This getting old thing is for the birds......

The knee had a lifetime warranty, for the life of the knee. Knee breaks when warranty expires.

Man, these bodies, we're on borrowed time, anything could get you.

I'm still on the original knees, but three knee scopes. Like I said, borrowed time.

No shit I injured the second knee doing psychotic PT running sideways on a treadmill in a sling, so I did claim an "accident" because I knew right when it happened, and I was on LI for the 1st knee, but had to open a case for the 2nd knee. They said it would never fly but it did.

I went in to see the doc and he said, "so which is it, the right knee, the left knee, or the wee knee?"

;]
Doc ! You just leave the wee knee alone or else ! Lol

Sorry to see this and glad you are "ok" but I love the picture of you with your Guild.
Best of luck for a reasonable recovery back to normal. I'm starting to feel all the things I've done to my body over the years.
....everything takes longer to heal and always comes back to remind you. Play your Guild a little louder!

Thanks Tom , I don’t see the doc until the 4th but I might try to get in Monday because the fluid build up is a lot . I can push down over an inch and not bottom out so I think I’m flooded . Lol ouch !!
It’s real sore in the lower end of calf muscle and on the top of my leg muscle about a 12” up from the knee .
I hoping that draining the fluid will be a Gods send besides relieving the pressure it give me more mobility . I have a feeling I’ll have few drain dates just like my first go around .

sorry to here about your hips and knees . We are a poorly designed species for sure .

Maybe try cutting down on dietary sodium to reduce fluid retention in the meantime? You'd be amazed how much excess sodium there is in most of the stuff we eat.

I never worried about it myself until an ear doctor prescribed low-sodium diet to reduce fluid pressure in my ear, was giving me vertigo.
She put me on 1500 mg/day, the AMA recommendation for heart health is 2000, so it was pretty drastic.

The average American can pack away 3500-4000mg plus daily, without even trying, and even when he thinks he's eating pretty healthy.

Check the nutrition info on labels on just about everything that's packaged, and you can look up things like eggs (60mg/ea), bread (average 80mg/slice and up from there). Fish in general is pretty good but sockeye salmon and swordfish are kind of up there. Ground beef/pork/lamb average around 80mg for 1/3 lb burger.

Veggies (fresh, unsalted canned, and some frozen) are the best ultra-low source, also pasta including rice pasta.
The hard part is all those numbers are based on raw ingredients without sauce, that's where the sodium is, along with processed/canned meats.

So ya gotta get a little creative coming up with seasoning for stuff.

Makes sense Al , I have a water pill I take with my blood pressure pill but I think I forgot 2 days worth but I took the meds this morning .
my leg and foot is pretty swollen this morning . Had rough night of hurt felt like a tendon was on fire every time I’d roll over .Had another sweat night at one time . Ugh
I’ll keep an eye on the sodium. Thanks 😊

You probably should be on antibiotics and also anti-inflammatory meds, unless there's some reason you can't take them. Like if you're on blood thinners like I am but I still did a course of Celebrex (anti-inflammatory) after every surgery. If they did something invasive and went inside your joint, they need to take care of the risk of infection AND the post surgical inflammation. Also, did they recommend icing the joint? No more than 20 minutes but that will take a ton of inflammation down. Seems like your medical care is kinda lacking.......

Also, for icing down awkwardly shaped body parts like knees and such, your best friend is a bag of frozen peas!! Individual frozen balls that (when broken up) conform to shapes much easier than ice cubes and the like. Throw the bag on for 20 minutes then off for 40. Throw the peas back in the freezer and then do it again for 20 minutes, and then off for 40.

I have ice water pump bucket thingy . They pump cold water via hose into a pad the can conform to the leg shape .
no anti inflammatory pills . I guess Ibuprofen is it . Lol

Thought I’d drop in and update . I went from walking up and down the rd , shooting some hoops carefully of course to a week and half of 24/7 pain that I never knew existed.

I tore the muscle all around the knee area where said work was done . That set off a nice bit swelling . They had drained my knee a week or 2 earlier they used 4 biggish type Syringes .

I tried to get in to see them last Thursday said wait to Monday it’s to soon to do it we have infection concerns . Ok did I tell you this shit really hurts ? Did I tell you the pain is so bad that I’ve under gone some kind of emotional change not for the good of me ?
In between this I told them sleeping was almost impossible I’m having the sweats every night . That got some attention .

they tried to get a sample from the last blood letting to test for infection . Let me try to fix the blood letting , there was 3 the first one had the 4 syringes the second on about a week ago and the third yesterday .

you could clearly see it had fluid a good bit , ENTER THE SUCKER OF BLOOD !!!!! Is that Darth maul ? Oh boy !
They numb the area then shove the needle in suck! I said suck ! Nothen a complete vacuum sucking the piston back in to seat at the needle . Enter Perplexity ! That ain’t right ! So the needle comes out then back then removing it a little making hard lefts and hard rights . Then pushing the damn thing out the other side of my leg .

my friend Mike drove me to the Docs not a long drive . But I was in so much pain I about said go to the emergency room . Rapid breathing, rocking and constantly trying to find a place I could move my leg for relief which never came .

now we’re back to the Doc jamming a syringe through . I said Doc Ryan could get anything either last week . I don’t like to admit it I was crying like a baby the whole time.

the sample for infection was tested I don’t if I have exactly right but one test was 1-100 somethings this test came 123 which he said though high it’s not that bad . Here’s where I’m blown away .
This only had a range 0-30 and the result !!!!!!!!
299 . It was Darth Maul dang it !!!!!

so Tuesday I get to have fun again . Open up the knee poke and prod see what can been seen . Remove all the implants flush it out fill it with antibiotics shove a plastic spacer in there and sew it up . Go home for 6 weeks on antibiotics. If all good reinstall new implants . They took out a half knee but they might not have any spacers thick enough put back as I’m on the largest one they offer but there could be an option . If not then full knee replacement it is .
To close , This emotional Roller coaster ride is something I’m completely unable to handle .
I don’t know how the pieces fit or what triggers what . Like now why heck am I crying now for ????

ok enough may you all have a Marry Christmas and happy new year . 😊🤗

Hard to control emotions when excruciating pain involved - crying a good thing and wishing you a lasting positive outcome - and sooner not later.
